Cow elk opportunity

You are all correct. Elk isn't something that I get to hunt regularly living in PA. It may not be a record book bull but it will still be a trophy to me and the memories will last forever.

Good luck and yes, I would purchase a tag for that price. Cow tags are all I buy any more. I take one of my XP100 pistols and take off into the timber, trying to stay close to a road or trail that can facilitate easy extraction. HAH

Definitely get the cow elk tag. Elk meat is wonderful. Be warned, once you're used to having it in your freezer, you'll want more when you run out. In the years I haven't taken a bull, I'll do a late season (January) cow elk hunt in NM to replenish my freezer. We rarely buy beef in my household. The kids love it and my other half is Argentinian and is a wizard with meat on a hot coal grill (I'm king of the Traeger!)

I'm thinking this is going to be a good time. No guarantees as this is not a high fence but its seems like a pretty high success hunt from what I can tell. I've hunted elk in Colorado before OTC tags and even had a cow tag one year but didn't fill it. Hunted all week on public land never saw an elk. I'm pretty stoked about it and the antelope hunt as well, never did it so this should be an adventure. It's just my younger brother and I, he's never been on a "hunting trip" I figure this is a good one for him to get his feet wet, he's only ever really hunted whitetail and wild boar in Florida.

I'm probably in a time warp because I can't see paying that much to hunt elk. Then again, I got to live in WYO. for 16 years and got to do all the elk hunting I wanted. Maybe I should recant my post because, once you go elk hunting you'll never be the same again!!
