300 Winchester with 210 Berger Hunting

Mine is 1:10.

I been mighty tempted to get a 6.5-284 before. Suppose my next priority may be replacing the barrel in the 30-06 my parents gave me (long ago) so it is less finicky. That can be frustrating. Good luck.

I love the ballistics behind the 6.5-284. Mostly why I decided to build one.

Good luck to you as well! Might have to try tge 210s

I would say to start at 75gr h-1000 and work up till you find your sweet spot, try anything from a .020" jump to just kissing the lands if you can, if not, then drop down to 73gr and start from there. I'm running 79gr h-1000 with the 225eld and getting 2900+ fps from a 28" barrel with mine but they are stretched out to nearly .200" longer than Sami spec therefore increasing case capacity so use that information with caution!

Yeah pretty much, just make sure if you are going Sami spec oal to drop down to about the 73-74gr range to be safe. Another thing that's worth mentioning is that I've had better luck using CCI br4 large rifle benchrest primers instead of magnum primers, they handle the pressure just fine and my extreme spread dropped into the single digits, none too shabby with a fairly large belted magnum. Only grouped it once at 100 and the 5 shot group size center to center was roughly .300" and it has no problems shooting clays at 600 and 1000 if I do my part.

I am planning on trying to run closer to 3.5-3.6" for seating depth. In some very limited testing with H1000 and IMR8133 with Fed 215 and ADG brass, I was seeing some single digit SD values and extreme spread barely over 10 in some cases. It was a limited test so would have to shoot more to validate.

Just remember that vld's can be a pain in the *** and I wouldn't recommend using them if your wanting to develop a quick load. But who knows maybe you'll find the sweet spot fast. My 300 win pushed 100 of those babies during load development and only got around 1moa groups. I went with 215 hybrids and wam. 100 rnds in I'm shooting .5 at 100 and .75 moa at 1k. Mine the 210s the same with h1000 and retumbo. A tiny bit better with h4831sc.

Lack of time is definitely a concern. I do have a fall back with testing of some factory ammo as well that will be used if needed. At the moment, the Berger loaded ammo with 185 Classic Hunter has shot well. I would prefer a heavier bullet. So that is the goal at the moment.

I've never had a hard time with vld bullets, actually came up with the load I'm using in less than 20 rounds. Werth, do you have the ability to shoot at your house any? If so, load a round, set up your chronograph, walk outside and fire it, check for pressure signs really good on the case, if all is good load another working up in 1% increments of your total case capacity and repeat till you find signs of pressure then subtract 1% and tinker around at that basic charge weight

Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to go outside and shoot. I have to drive about 45 minutes to a decent range to test. I usually load a few different loads to try so that I test and adjust based on results. I know it is not the easiest or most efficient way to test but what I am stuck with being in the city.

H-1000, 75.0 grs. to 78.0 grs. depending on barrel length and barrel speed. 76.5 and 76.7 worked in my son's rifle w/ .035" jump.
Copy the first recommendation, I've worked mine up in about an hour, less than 20 shots and still go back to it when i tinker with loads. This is a monster on deer though, way too graphic to post here. Elk should be more manageable.
