Bedding nerves

So I have a small mess on my hands but I can deal with that. I'm thinking what went wrong was the wax I used OR I started with a Q-tip and alcohol to begin wiping excess to early. Wondering if that may have seeped in and degraded the wax. I did not use Johnsons paste but turtle paste. Much was stuck in places I know were waxed. For certain I am free floated and the barrel is very snug. In hind sight I should have gone to a local pawn and picked up something really cheap and practiced on that. This one will be salvageable so not all is lost.

Yup, Kiwi.
Mine are pretty tight too. I have had to wack the barrel on a carpeted floor to break them loose. Scares the heck out of me.
Glad you it knocked loose.

Thanks for the kiwi info. Saw that on the net also. Just seemed to be a trend towards waxes. Kiwi next! I think part of my knock it out problem was the flimsy cabinet style bench in the garage. To much give. Once I placed everything on the floor it came out. I've learned some from this. I'm definitely going to attempt this again. My other 2 rifles are going to SC with me in 2 weeks and I don't have the courage of livetohunt who bedded a rifle 2 days before a hunt. They need to hunt. Can't wait to shoot this and see if it shoots any better.

Nice...
Turned out better than my first bedding job in 1975. Half my walnut stock separated from the barrelled action. The rest remained permanently attached. Weren't near as many sources of instruction back then.

Maybe bed behind the recoil lug next go?
I was a bit surprised also. I honestly did. I know because I instantly got JB in the action screw hole and found a bolt of similar size to poke threw to clean it out. Then put more putty in. Thought I made a mistake as it all squished out. Probably 1/2 of the mess I cleaned up. Where did I go wrong there?

Clearance the back with a dremel So the JB weld has room to adhere to the stock. It must have already been a
Tight fit on the back Of the lug.

Yes, dremel the area to be bedded to give room for the bed. I like to rough it up a bit too, and drill/dremel a few small holes to give the bedding compound some grip.

Maybe bed behind the recoil lug next go?

Lol you beat me to it but yeah i was always taught that the stock to lug fit is supposed to be tight/precise on the action side of the lug.

Anyways good on you for trying it at home i love doing my own light gunsmithing if i can. Out of curiosity though, did you tape up the lug with painters tape?
