Seekins Havak Rifle

It's been good for me. Shot .5 moa with factory hornady 143 eldx. Haven't started reloading yet but i cant shoot with this weather going on anyway. Way too dry. The 143 hornady ammo i found very consistent, the 147 ammo wasn't as consistent but not bad. Mines in a 6.5 PRC.

Have you handled one? They have the absolute worst feeling action I have ever touched hands down. Yes, I handled more than one of them. I have no doubt they will shoot. They have great ergonomics with the vertical grip stock but I can not deal with an action that cycles like the Havak. It is a shame.

Great stuff guys!!! I have not handled one yet. I'm hoping my Cabelas has one in stock I can handle tomorrow. I have heard some of the early Havak's had different stocks and other parts. The action is of Seekins design and manufacture.

I'm looking at the 6.5 PRC as I have a full custom 6.5 Creedmoor and a Barrett Fieldcraft 6.5 Creedmoor. I'm just looking for something new.

I'm also waiting for accuracy reports on the new Sauer Panteras in 6.5 PRS.

Its an addiction I just cant shakeo_O

Early Havak rifles and a cabelas special version had manners stocks. Most the new ones have a proprietary Havak stock now made just for seekins.

The one I handled was similar. Very rough cycling action. It was @ Sportsmans Warehouse. Maybe it just needed cleaned and lubed?

Sure felt and looked a lot like a Stiller action. Not saying it was, just had the look and feel. Other than the stiller actions I've cycled are smoother.

It's not a rough action. It feels like cock on close does on a very poorly timed 700. I have not torn one apart so I can't say if it really is cock on close or just the way it was designed. Either way it's not something that is going to "smooth out".

Yea, the same old forum BS. If you dont own one or cant afford one, or your just a negative AH the rifle stinks and will never make it, same with the 6.5 PRC round.

I was able to wade through the BS and see a couple impressive groups which is what I was looking for.

Thanks guys

If you are talking to me I think you need to think again. I will stand by what I said every day. The actions feel like crap. Again I am sure they will shoot. They are put together with a great barrel and stock. As to the "if you can't afford one" comment I can assure you I can afford whatever I want and price plays very little in my gear choices. I was really suggesting in my earlier post that you go handle one. If you are ok with the crappy feeling action then buy one. I knew the second I handled multiple rifles that it was a rifle I would never own even at half the cost strictly due to the action. It sounds to me like you have somehow become emotionally attached to the idea of having one and if that is the case you should give one a try. I love trying different gear and rifles are my favorite gear to test but I am not willing to buy one to see how accurate it is when there are several other options in it's price range and even cheaper that I know are accurate and have proper cycling actions. Good luck with your endeavor.

wasn't targeting you rfur, I see it everywhere. You are correct, I dont want to drop $2000 on anything without handling it. I'm more intrigued with the 6.5 PRC. I dont want to spend $5000 on a custom, so I'm looking for well made factory rifle in this caliber. I like to try new things too but like someone else to at least get the ball rolling. I'm also looking at the new Sauer Pantera in this caliber. They are supposed to start hitting distributors shelves now.

Any way, I appreciate you and your thoughts. My Cabelas doesn't have one in stock to feel:(

Mine has been great, haven't had any problems with it, and it cycles just fine. I have a defiance action on my rbros rifle, yes its smoother but a lot more money. Looked at the sauer pantera but i think its twist rate is 1:8.66", seems like the high bc bullets like the 1:8 or faster.
