Christensen Rifle....#2?

Well....it definitely sounds like CA is gonna have to take serious action here...
It is their product....and it's not something a gunsman does to their own rifle just to get out of a sale.....
I once bought a bino that at the store everything seemed to work correctly...out in the woods it all went to hell..eye pieces didn't adjust correctly together...i showed the store owner and he gladly replaced them with anotber...after a while the same thing started to happen...just poor workmanship i guess....i happen to be driving through the neighbor of the manufacturer and just before they closed did another comparison of the same binos and drove away....then those screwed up...same exact problem...
So i called the manufacturer and talked with the owner for sometime...and sent the $400 binos back and received their higher end....and they have worked for over 20 years without problems....although i now carry my leupold switchpowers while hunting..the others are always hanging on back of truck seat.....just in case....
Lots of products slip by QC.....but some are doomed to fail later on...
Just be glad you weren't already in the bush in AK.....that would suck....but then there's always Whitehorse..................

The squeaky wheel gets the grease...become the squeaky wheel. Throw out how you will share your experiences on long range shooting forums and direct them to this thread if needed. A good resolution works out well for them...a bad one, not so much.

And stress the need for time before a hunt to get comfortable with the gun. Tell them if they can get you a rifle with a test fire with SAMMI length COAL that shoots acceptably then that may work for you as well. Tell them to you have invested lots of money in the trip to AK, which is true. Don't say anything that isn't true but say everything that is true about why they need to make it right.

Thanks. Too be honest now, I just want the money for the gun and the brake back. I'll just have a buddy put one together for me. I'm almost embarrassed now if somebody asked me what gun I have. Everyone I have talk to now has had issues with theirs it seems. I'm going to call in the morning, but I'm sure I'm going to get the same guy that always answers the phone and they're going to give me the same line, " just send it back and will take a look at and go from there." Just want the money back now.

I have been following this thread. You are right, you are not the first person with issues.

Once you get them on the phone ask for the highest person in management you can get. Don't waste your time with the person who answers the phone.

I know because I had a friend who asked me to work up a load for his CA rifle.
Action screws kept getting loose.

First guy I talked to gave me incorrect information. He said it was bedded. I kept snugging up the action screws to 50 in/lb and they kept loosening ruining group size.

Second time I called I asked for their stock expert. He first asked who's ammo I was shooting. I said handloads. He immediately said that would void the warranty. I laughed at him. Finally I got him to admit they didn't bed the stock. He said the stock is compressing just tighten it up REALLY TIGHT to 80 in/lb or so. It held for his hunt and when over he had it pillar bedded.

I sincerely hope you get satisfaction. Let us know what happens.

When I had a problem with one of my rifles (not CA) they asked me what ammo I used. I said handloads and the warranty thing was brought up also. I asked them what ammo they used to test it. The conversation got better from there. The rifle never extracted the cartridge, he did not know what ammo was used.

I had an issue with my CA Carbon Classic in 338 Lapua. It would shoot factory ammo without an issue, but any reloaded ammo I got a stuck case (starting loads or less from the load manuals, no extractor marks, no flattened primers). I couldn't figure out what was going on. Tried different FL dies, it didn't matter. Called CA and they basically told me if it shot factory ammo fine to not even bother sending it back to them. I took it to a local gunsmith (who happens to be a legend and one of the best in the country). He took one look through his bore scope and found that the chamber was rough in a few spots and had a couple of burs. He said he figured this was my issue. He checked my FL die to see if it was sizing properly, and said it was doing just fine. He disassembled the rifle and polished up the chamber and throat. I'm glad to report it solved my issue. I think the QC at CA is the problem. Too bad, because my rifle is nice and very accurate. I won't buy another one due to the issues I had.

After reading all the bad reports on here how much longer will they stay in business. I have seen many CA rifles on line and in shops in the used department wondering how many have issues. It is sad they don't have any care about what they are putting out the door.

Call me the odd man out here, but I have had nothing but great luck with the 3 Christensen rifles I have (one semi .308, two bolts). I hope you get your issues resolved to your liking. Please keep us updated.

Same here. I haven't seen one that I couldn't get to perform extremely well.

Oh I'm sure there's no doubt there are hundreds of happy customers out there. And I'm sure that they do make a great rifle. It's just upsetting that I got two bad ones in a row. That's enough for me to call it quits

@shooters ,.. As a former Gun shop owner and Gunsmith, the rough chamber could have been made with, a "roughing reamer" or, a an un-sharpened/ damaged finish reamer ! It DOESN'T matter !!! Send the Rifle back with, the bad cases IMMEDIATELY and don't expect, a refund as, ALL Guns, are Registered, to the new owner and this Rifle becomes USED, to CA, aka, hard to re-sell and they would take, a LOSS ! My "best guess" is that, the Barrel needs to be "set back" a little and re-reamed with, a GOOD finish reamer and then test fired with, the Brass to show you, it's now,.."good" ! Be as nice as possible but, a little "squeeky", to the highest possible "owner" available ! THEN,.. start working on Moose Killer Loads for, your other Rifle just in case, the CA Rifle doesn't make it back in time! Remember just punch a 1/2 inch Hole, thru their Lungs with a good EXPANDING Bullet and,.. dead Bull ( shoot twice, if nec) ! We kill the smaller Shira's Moose and lge Elk with,.. sharp BH Arrows, thru the lungs and they usually, don't go far! Get the second rifle,. shootin',.. SOON ! Good Luck !

OR, like dougduey said, take it to, a good Gunsmith to be re-reamed and polished,
that would be,.. the quickest way, IMO
Don't get your hope's up for, a refund but,.. they will FIX it !
Having sent MANY Firearms back to their "makers" NONE ever refunded $$'s to any of my Customers. They were fixed or even totally replaced but, never refunded and the Factories rarely admitted,.. to any,.. "problem" !
