Which .338??

Isn't the 338/375 ruger essentially the same as a 33 nosler? Pretty sure it's right there in capacity & length.

about 10% greater capacity than the 33 nosler according to nosler specs 89.9gr H2o compared to the 99.9gr h2o with 338/375 ruger

Actually I found this in another thread about the 33 Nosler:

"That 88.6 number is with bullet seated. Case capacity is more like 98-100..."

Which makes it very similar to the 338 campfire, demon etc.

With that in mind I have pretty much decided to go with the 33 Nosler just need to work out the throating, if I want to do anything other than standard? I measured the mag box last night and I think it was around 3.49ish?

I am pretty sure that it will remove the existing chamber, reamers are readily available as is brass, hopefully eventually we will see someone other than nosler have brass!

Nosler states water capacity to the bottom of the neck. Look at a 28 Nosler, it holds about 102grs of water yet it shows 93.8 on a search. A 30 Nosler is about 99grs or almost identical to a 300 Weatherby and apparently a 30-375 Ruger.

Check the specs on the Jamison. If it is a true WSM case the base is larger then a Nosler case and the Nosler won't clean up the chamber without setting it back.

Yeah, I have been researching all of these chamberings(338rcm, 338wsm, 338 campfire, 33 Nosler evan thought about 338 norma) I have chamber drawings of the nosler and dakota since I have decided that the rcm and wsm would be essentially what I have and the norma's rim diameter would require opening up the bolt face which looks questionable to me. The Jamison is smaller in diameter at the base and the same at the shoulder so it seams reasonable that with the taper and longer cartridge the existing shoulder should be removed. I plan on measuring a fired jamison case to help confirm this thought.

Thank you all for the helpful replies, I will keep you post on my progress on this, should be fun!!

Be careful with your powder capacity on the 33 nobler... I'm using a custom tapered throat (custom manson reamer)with a 3.65 mag box I seat the bullets (250 bergers) to 3.55 over 77 grains of 7828 SSC. This is not a super hot or compressed load in my rifle but sure would be with a 3.49 OAL. This load in my rifle adv 2812fps (26.5 in barrel) with a deviation spread of 18 fps. the 33 is a great round but I think its in the same ball park as the 338 norma...I even think the campfire might have a little capacity on it...but I'll let someone with more experience than me weigh in.

Actually remeasured the mag well, it is 3.43". So based on published max COL it's long enough but definitely won't be seating very long!

The Norma holds about 10 more gr than the 33 nosler case. Due to its wider powder column its more efficient some would say. A 338 norma improved will run with a lapua in most comparisons.

Well, I just ordered a 33 Nosler reamer and go gauge.

I have also gotten a bore scope, and the barrel that I have is not in very good shape and I suspect that this is why I was always less than satisfied with it-the chamber work looks ok but the barrel machining doesn't look great to me. I think that I will use this barrel as a chamber test barrel!

So with that I am in the market for a new barrel, I have had good luck with pacnor but am looking for something cheap if anyone has something laying around that is unchambered and unthreaded?? .338 planning on shooting 250's looking to finish at 26" heavy sporter???
