Sure there are a few bullets that fall into that category.

You shoot a 100gr Nosler BT out of a 26 Nosler at or near max velocity at a big bull elk at 50 yards and there is no telling what will happen.

Comparing monolithic bullets to standard lead core bullets is like comparing apples to pears. It' all fruit, but the comparison is fruitless!

There are some well made lead core bullets that I have used before we started Hammer Bullets that are well made and can withstand a large range of impact vel. They are by nature much harder on the meat when it comes to meat loss than our bullets. I shot several animals dead through the shoulders in Africa at under 100y with a 260g .338 Hammer Hunter launched at nearly 3300fps with very little meat damage. Stoned all 7animals I shot. Nothing went father than 5 feet.

The reality is they are branching segments, and subsegments, down to the small units where O2, and blood combine. Generally just loafing around very small percentage of lung is required, shut down a portion, and other portions will take over. A rather ingenious device really with built in mechanisms to to keep blood flow, and air flow matching by shutting down units that aren't working.

Oh now I see.
I have never thought of lungs as 'popping a balloon', but feel that due to their nature, they are filled with lots of blood and are quickly pumped dry, but as evidence suggests not all lung hits are fatal. I guess it depends WHERE you hit them in the lungs.

The ONLY deer (sambar stag of about 28" in length) I lost was due to a steep uphill shot that hit way higher than I thought it would, I did aim lower but not enough. I hit him right on top of the shoulder/back section above the spine. I saw the impact, and he stumbled and dropped his front legs and crumpled, but in just a few seconds he was up and running. I'm still kicking myself over that shot as a second shot didn't present due to the number of trees. He was never recovered and have not seen him on my game cameras since. Whether he survived or not, I don't know.
