Alright guys im fixing to order a new barrel in one or the other which do ya'll think is the best all round accurate choice, the 7wsm or the 7mm/300wsm.

Lets say the majority goes with 7mm/300wsm, will regular 7wsm dies work or not. Seeing as how i've already got 7wsm dies.

I know from what ive read the 7mm/300wsm is made off of the 270wsm or the 300wsm i've also got 100rounds of new 270wsm brass.

But if ya'll think that the 7wsm is the way to go thats good too, just curious what the rest of you guys thought.

One more thing what barrel length would ya'll go for i will do most of my shooting at targets 70per. of the time so weight isnt a big issue for me.

Thanks
Nathan.

7mmWSM dies will not work. The 7mm has longer walls and a shorter neck.

I would vote that you go 7mmWSM since you already have the dies. You can also use the 270WSM brass, just takes a little fireforming.

That's what I'm doing with 270WSM Norma brass in my 7mmWSM.

The only thing you are loosing is the neck length. Serious bench guys would rather have the neck length than the capacity. I'd rather have the 50fps.

nddodd,

I have had both the 7WSM's and the 7-300WSM's my personal pick would be the
7-300WSM, for a few reasons.
1- a longer neck for more bullet support when used as a repeater.
2- very easy use of Norma .270 brass

As far as dies you can use a Redding type S .270WSM full length sizer, with a .312 neck bushing, with no alterations and a 7WSM seating die can be used with no alterations, but I do like to shorten the bottom of the die to accommodate the shorter head space.

Things to ponder though as the 7-300 is not for everyone

1- A 7-300WSM will chamber in a .270 WSM factory rifle..BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN!

2- No factory ammo available

it will definitely be the 7-300WSM for me as I like as little brass prep as possible and the longer neck.

Just my $.02

I'm kinda leaning towards the 7wsm since I already have the dies, with the 270wsm brass will i have to do anything extra to the case otherthan the normal deburring primer pocket, chamfer inside, outside ofcase neck.

When I order mybarrel do I need to tell them I am wanting to shoot the heavier bullets so they can throat it for the longer bullets.

I'm thinking of going w/the Brux barrel has anyone used these before and did you like it.

Understood.
If you are using Norma brass in a 7WSM use 300WSM brass. So when you size it down you have a false shoulder to head space off of. This will be like fire forming an Ackley..exaggerated as you will be blowing the whole case forward. I also recommend seating the bullets to touch the lands in your fire forming as this gives you an extra head space stop. Be careful.

Only thing I do to Norma brass is chamfer the inside of the neck and ream the inside of the primer pocket. Not to say more can't be done. I just have a hard time holding onto a piece of brass for that long:D

Brux is an excellent choice!! I have used around 100 of them and haven't had a bad one yet. Not to mention they are great to deal with! I would recommend a 9 twist. If you are shooting primarily 180's I would go with a 8.6 twist.

Thanks so much for your info Nate I appreciate it. Should I get some 300wsm brass or will the 270wsm be ok to use.

Thanks again

To save fire forming I would recommend buying the 7 WSM brass or loaded ammo. There are currently 2 brands of brass available for about .30 cents less than loaded ammo. I have a 7 WSM and find most loaded ammo shoots well in my rifle. (Good enough to hunt with). Once it is fired in my chamber, I can load this brass with my pet load for better accuracy.

The only real difference in brass brands is their case life so the brand really doesn't matter if you can get good results with you loads.

If you get the right brass and don't have to fire form you will extend the brass life buy at least one usable firing.

The neck length seems to be a problem for some but it is plenty for the 7mm bullet. the only reason it is longer is because with the reduction in bullet diameter and the 35o shoulder and the same overall case length as the 300, the neck will be shorter and the case body will be longer. holding more powder and preventing it from being loaded in a 270 WSM.

If you fire form any other WSM in a 7mm WSM chamber, All you have done is to add one firing to the brass. If you are considering the 7 WSM, Buy 2 or 300 rounds of brass or find a good factory loading and build a good brass supply.

Like you I don't want to be held hostage to one brass manufacture but that is not the case currently. so make it easy on your self and stay with the 7 WSM brass and don't worry about all of the what If's.
And If 7 WSM brass becomes unavailable, then substitute the 270 or 300 brass for it.

Just my opinion
