Which 6.5

I have a rem 700 short action (308 bolt face) and a hawk hill 6.5 blank. I'm looking to build a longish (600 yards max) range coues deer/antelope/range rifle, I have my 300 win mag for bigger stuff and longer range. Is there any benefit to the 6.5x47 now that there is small rifle primer brass for the creed? I reload and was thinking of shooting the 130-140 class bullets. 260 rem is also and option. I really want a 6.5x284 but need a LA for that and I'm not going to buy one right now. In the future I was thinking of also doing a 6.5 grendel AR build. I'm open to suggestions.

The one main advantage the creed has is all the factory ammo options. I only point this out due to the hunting application. If you travel to hunt and your ammo is lost you stand a lot better chance of finding creed in a local store than the others.

Also, for your AR, definitely build a 6.5 Grendel. Fun little cartridge, and is much more potent than the .223/5.56.

6.5 creed or 260Ai. Launch 140s at 2850+ and no deer will stand a solid hit at 600 yards from it. The 260 AI should get the 140s alittle faster, but the 6.5 creed with a 140 and rl-26 should exceed 2900 no problem. Brass availability is alittle better for the creed then the 260 or x47 lapua. Toss a coin.

Never regretted buying my first Creed which was a Ruger American predator, it was cheap and very accurate. After burning the barrel out of that one, I knew I would always have a Creed in the safe, so I went with a Savage 11 LRH, that way I could swap the barrel myself. The Creed has all other 6.5 comp cartridges beat in popularity and factory ammo options. It's perfect for mag fed rifles, not to long, not to short...

6.5cm. You will not fight magazine length in ur 700 SA. A 260ai would be best in a savage SA, for a little more mag length.

I assumed you intend to run 140 plus bullets. 6.5cm for those, if ur wanting to run 130 or lighter, a 260 will work fine in that action

I'll vote for the 6.5x47 because I have two of them. 130 Berger hunting at 2980 fps is devastating on deer. At that speed and my 1500 ft elevation, it's good out to 700 on deer size game. In the end I don't think you can go wrong with a x47,creed or 260. As Mud said if going 260 I'd ackley it.

Thats smoking out of a x47, what setup are you using? I'm really intrigued by the 47 as I hear they are just super easy to tune, but I've also never heard or seen a creed that wasn't easy to get to shoot.

It was built by RBROS. Defiance action, 26" Broughton manners stock. Travis assured me that it was not at max with that load. He developed the load for me after the rifle was completed. I haven't shot any other bullets because it just works so good. My other x47 is a lighter hunting/carry gun. Wildcat CF stock, Remington SA, 25" Benchmark, trigger tech, Swaro Z5 6-25x52 BT. Finished right at 8 lbs. it shoots 130 gr Accubond at 2900 fps. Both guns I use H4350. You are correct that they are very easy to get to shoot.

What's your barrel length and load?

26" Broughton, 42.2 gr H4350, Lapua brass, CCI 450.

Wow, I'm not getting those speeds in my creed. 130 over varget. 2892... I may have to try 4350 in my x47

For many of the reasons listed above...and quality commercial ammo, cheap brass and pretty efficient...

6.5 Creedmoor gets my vote!

With those three things be a base criteria...6.5x47 is out as is the 6.5x284. While I'm sure the 260 is a great cartilage...finding ammo in a pinch might be tough to pull off. But as has been said if I went that way Ackley the caliber. Be a lot cheaper than buy 6.5x284 brass.

And I agree with Mud on the Grendel. I bought two very cheap barrel for a couple AR's that I have. I was very lucky as they both shoot a lot better than I needed and a ton better than I expected. I never dreamed I would shoot it out to 400 yards but did last week. I was super pleased with the accuracy!

Where I do most of my hunting a 500 yard shot would be very tough to come by so high BC bullets don't draw a lot of attention from me for hunting. Ringing steel is fun but but I don't shoot competitively so loosing a little BC just means a couple more clicks to get it done.
