Considering having my CZ 527 17 Remington Re-barreled Right now it has the Factory Varmint contour . Tad front heavy and has well over 1000 round through it .........would still like a 24" 1x9 just not sure about the contour or who makes the best barrel for a 17 Remington

I talked to Kevin Weaver about something similar a few months ago and he told me he'd been having really good luck with Lilja's .17 cal barrels.

There's no shortage of very good barrel makers out there but the problem is not all of them make a .17 cal barrel so your selection of whose barrel to use will be substantially more limited.

Ive run lilja 17 cal barrels and had great luck. They have Remington varmint contours in stock and if you are in a hurry I think for an extra $50 they will recontour an in stock barrel. Id run a #3 contour

I have also had excellent performance with the Lilja 3 grove barrels.

The 3 grove appear to be faster and you could go with a 22" to eliminate some of the muzzle weight without giving up any velocity.

A 1 in 9 or a 1 in 10 twist would work great for the 17 Remington.

It willl be a walking varming rifle not a 100 shots a day rifle............I will use it for Marmonts but up in the canyons I hunt a good day is 20 shots. So a 2.5 or light sporter would work out for me...............

Turn your barrel down and carbon wrap it back to factory contour so it'll still fit your stock nicely...

Lilja makes a #3 that would weight 2.73 lbs at 22" This would be as light as I would go if it needed to be very accurate. I went with a #4 that weighs right at 3 lbs at 22''. it is very accurate and will shoot 10 shots in 1/2 MOA if i do my part.

If you keep the barrel short (20 to 22") it will be strong in the lighter weights, especially with a 17 cal bore

To bad I cant get CZ to re-barrel it. The factory barrel shoots incredible. 26.6gr H414 and the Reeds 32gr RBBT HP 2.240 five shots in the .4's and .3's Every CZ I have ever had will shoot right along with any custom barrel I have seen. I will put my CZ 17 Remington up against any Cooper that cost $1700 more.
