Gday
Haven't been on here for a while

Just in the process of purchasing a Tikka 270 wsm
Already got a t3 270 win and love it
Looking to get an extra few meters with the wsm

Will only be using 150 gr burgers

What I'm looking for is info on what powder to use
Was thinking

AR2225 same as Retumbo
Or
AR2217 same as H1000

Any info on load development would be much appreciate

Cheers

Berger has load Data for, the 140 Classic Hunters ! I use, the 140 Nosler AccuBond's with, 65 grains of IMR 7828 and Fed 215's, with Bullets seated, almost touching the end of the Magazine, so Tips don't get deformed much, under recoil. The load Chrono's 3,150 FPS and is SUB MOA. Tikka Rifles, have a LOT of freebore and Tanget Ogive Bullets "work" best in them, as you cannot seat VLD's close to the Lands without, a longer Magazine. I thought about using Retumbo, but not sure about the "safety" of this Powder, in the .270 WSM,. as had read some bad report that, scared me off that one. RL-26 was used by Robby Denning ( lots of Data on Rokslide by him) to get 3200-3300 FPS with, the 140 Clasicc Hunter's. Sorry I couldn't help you, on the 150 Bergers but, the 140's work so well, in the .270 WSM,.. it seems to be, the Bullet of choice, here in the USA. Good luck !

A person can modify the bolt stop on the wsm rifles for long action, then change out to the 300win magazine, can then run a longer oal.

Do you think I'll get 3200 FPS out of the stock barrel running the 150s
Or am I dreaming!

Is that a max load in your rifle?
Cheers

NO, it was NOT maximum but, I stopped at 65.1 grains of, IMR 7828 with, the 140 AB's at, 3,150 FPS as that, was the best group for me @ 1.2 inches at, 200 Yards ( several groups, shot ). Cratering / sticky bolt lift started after that load was reached ! Temp was 40-45 Degrees and Elev at 3,200 ft. and I have since shot that load at 70 degrees and still, Safe ! Per Berger Data, 66.3 ( 7828) is the Max charge with, THEIR bullet ( 140 Classic Hunter) NOTE that, the AccuBond's have, a LONGER Bearing surface and create TOP pressure, faster than, the Berger's will. You might get higher Velocities with, RL-26 and the 150 Berger but,.. 3,200 ??? Good Luck, work up slowly and be SAFE ! Every Rifle is,.. different.

Remember,.. Chamber pressures, will increase if, you "Jam" those, Berger's !
I'm about .080 OFF of "Jam" in a regular .270 wsm, Tikka Magazine.

For anyone following this, .270 WSM, Thread,.. I found the TRUE BC of the Nosler .277 dia., 140 grain, AccuBond bullet, to be pretty close to .485 BC,.. just slightly under the stated BC of, .496 from Nosler. They shot "well" ( sub MOA) at, 625 yards !.
So did, the Hornady 150 grain, ELD-X bullets, in my sons, Tikka T3X, 7mm-08 (a sub 3" group, at 625yards !). He was shooting, the 162 grain ELD-X's but they did NOT shoot, nearly as well, in his Tikka, but The 7mm, 150 ELDX's, were,.. "Golden" !

I'm getting 3175fps out of my 270 wsm 67 grains of h1000 with the 150 vld's max in berger book was 68 grains never tried max load was getting accuracy I wanted at 67 grains and .020 jump no pressure signs

I bought the T3 270 WSM for my wife and loaded a bit for it using 140 ABs with H1000 and H4831 (just because I have a lot of both). I was finding consistently slow velocities with both powders vs the published data and H1000 was the best accuracy. I'm curious if you see the same low velocities as I found, my guess is the bore is a little larger diameter and not building pressures as fast. I did find a consistent 1/3 MOA node at 2975 fps, and didn't find another node close so just loaded that and she can shoot all day ringing targets to 600 yards with ease.

I didn't have a chronograph when I developed the load got one recently and checked it out reloader 23 or 26 would probably give you a boost my rifle is a custom probably thighter maybe a longer barrel

With my Tikka 270 WSM I've been shooting the cutting edge 130 MTH bullet. 70gr RL26 gives 3440 fps and excellent accuracy. It's my favorite elk rifle.

Darn that's hot the bullets staying together and getting good penetration on elk? I'm not familiar with cutting edge bullets I'm shooting 150 bergers just got some reloader 26 going to give it a try
