I currently have a 280ai that I run Nosler brass out of behind a Berger 168vld but it is entirely to heavy for hunting where I live. In looking to build a second 280ai specifically for hunting but would like to use hornady brass so my headstamp makes it easier on me to keep brass separated and on a known number of firing/ correct sizing. Has anybody been using the hornady 280ai brass? Good, bad or ugly about it before I buy some? It also helps that it is a lot cheaper than the Nosler brass considering I likely will loose some in the field.

Tagging in.
I also use Nosler Brass, I did not know that Hornady was making 280AI brass.
How readily available is it and what kind of prices are you seeing?

The 280 Ackley hornady brass I've see runs about same price as their other brass

I've been using it, haven't had any winning loads yet but could be bullet selection (never had gotten great groups with the 168 LRX). Going to test the 145 LrX which I had a decent group with one of two powder trials.

Have also loaded up some federal 160 trophy bonded tipped also.

It's definitely not Lapua quality, but Hornady is about $44 per 50. Half the price of Nosler.

I'll also add that Hornady takes some prep out of the box usually. Shoulders also looked a bit different after the first firing. I inside and outside neck chamfered. Not big things, just observations.

Being that the brass is the only part of the round you can reuse, I run the Nosler cases. I am on 8th firing and primer pockets are still tight. I truly doubt Hornady brass would match that, so in the longrun Nosler would be the better buy.

The nosler brass I'm using now took fire forming and the shoulders definitely changed. I dont mind prepping the brass out of the box because I do that no matter what brass it is. I'm just hoping that primer pockets arent loosening or people arent seeing huge swings in weight etc...
