The 162 eldx is suppose to be stable in a 9.5 twist rifle, but the 180 eldm would need a 8 twist barrel.

When you run both in a calculator, there is a very very slight difference. What am I missing? 575 ft.

I have shot the 180s and they seem to fly well in my savage with a 9.5 twist. Shot out to 1000 yards both times out. On paper at 300 yards they are perfectly straight.

The loss of bc is 6% at 575 ft and no loss at 7000 ft( elk country).

What am I missing?

I'm guessing it's something to do with that long bearing surface. When I finish up the last of my 162 eld-m I'm going to give the 180 a try in my 9.5 twist. I'm at 1000 ft. Hornady does list bc numbers for a 8.75 twist barrel so we know its at least stable at that twist rate.
