I am highly interested in attaching the Revic 428 to my new rifle which is currently being finished. However, I have some hesitation... 56mm objective.

I am happy with a 50mm objective but that is as big as I have considered going. Who has been using a scope with a 56 mm objective in the field for a few years? Thoughts?

Just to eliminate the questions as to rifle size... I am guessing she will come in around 8 or 9lbs.

Many thanks!

Admittedly, I don't own a 56 mm objective scope, but a friend of mine has one in the Leupold VX-L series (I had the 50mm same series). His was 3.5-10x56 and mine was 2.5-10x50. Honestly, I couldn't tell much of a difference but that was probably due to the fact that both scopes only went to 10 power. Now, beyond 10 power maybe the 56mm may really stand out??

Owned quite a few 56mm scopes over the years, and still have a couple 50+mm objectives in the safe. A good quality 50mm scope with a 30mm (or larger) tube will transmit more than enough light for hunting and shooting. 56mm will transmit slightly more. But, with extremely high-quality glass (like Kahles, Swarovski, Zeiss, etc...), most 1" tubes with 50mm objectives will transmit as much light as a mid-range priced scope with a 30mm tube & 56mm objective.

My Kahles Helia KX 3.5-10x50 4D-Dot (1" tube), and Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 (1" tube) will keep up with most $1,000 50mm scopes with 30mm tubes. And my Zeiss Conquest 3-12x50 FFP (30mm tube) is insanely bright and clear. Phenomenal hunting scope, just pretty heavy and doesn't have target turrets. Thinking about sending it off t Kenton Industries to have the reticle changed and have target turrets retrofitted to it. Then it will be a hell of a scope. Or I might just sell it, and get one of the new Conquest V4 or V6 scopes.

Also, I'm extremely happy with the VX5HD that I have in 3-15x56. The 56 mm vs 50mm will let in more light plus the fact that you have a wider field of view which in my opinion is huge when it comes to gettin on game quick and watching impacts.

I have several 56mm objective hunting scopes.

5-25×56 S&B PMII DT
5-25×56 Premier Heritage
6-24×56 Kahles K624i Gen 3

All are amazing optics, and I love them.

I also have a few 50/52mm objective scopes.

3-15×50 Premier Heritage Light Tactical
3-15×50 Tangent Theta TT315M
3-15×50 Tangent Theta TT315M (this one is actually on the way from CS Tactical as we speak)
3-20×50 S&B PMII MTC LT
3-24×52 March F

All are on rifles that have their specific function. I would not hesitate to buy any of them again.

I appreciate the engagement... I am considering the 56mm objective strictly because I like the idea of the new Revic 428; otherwise, it would not be a consideration.

I only purchase high quality glass and currently run S&B/NF/most recently a Vortex AMG...

Answer to questions:
1. Ring height will be as low as possible based on objective... lets call it 2"
2. Sendero Light

My scopes fall into two categories of size/weight class. For LR hunting, I use 5x20-25X scopes that are 50-52mm, (March/AMG/Huskemaw). For PRS/competition, I use the 5x25x56 scopes(ATAC-R F1 and an S&B PMII). The Revic falls in the size/weight class of the latter. These are big scopes and add 1/2-1.0 pounds to the rifle compared to my scopes that are 50/52MM. While I personally prefer the aesthetics, size, and balance of my 50/52mm scopes on my LR hunting rifles, having considered the Revic, I would have made the trade off in size/weight had I wanted the Revics ballistic capability.

The 3-12x56 Zeiss victory HT is a fine hunting scope, just a couple ounces heavier than a 2.5-10x50 and I don't find it bulky or heavy.

Yes, you state my dilemma better than me.

All of my scopes other than AR/Dangerous Game scopes are 50, 52, and 56mm Obj's.

You won't notice enough difference between them to make any difference unless you have a straight tube on your barrel.

At the very worst you'll need some extra padding on the stock to get a good, comfortable cheek weld but you're still talking less than .25" difference.
