Who hunts with a 12+lb rifle?

1. .300 Win. mag Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker-> 9 lbs. exactly
2. 6.5 CM Ruger American Predator -> 9 lbs. W/Boyd's Classic laminated stock, 8 lbs. exactly W/ Ruger plastic factory stock
FOR COMPARISON: 6.5 CM Ruger Precision Rifle -> 15 lbs. exactly with Atlas bipod and CTK monopod (This "boat anchor" never goes hunting.)
I am in the process of re-building my Savage 99C with Boyd's laminated stocks (fitting is a "beatch") and a new, slightly heavier octagonal barrel. With 3 -9 scope and mount I expect about 9 1/2 lbs. NOT a mountain rifle.;o)

P.S. Of course I could lose 10 more pounds of lard and carry the RPR - but why? The RAP is, amazingly, almost as accurate with either stock.

Beautiful spot in the Rockies of Wyoming. Unfortunately a forest fire went through that region almost 2 years ago.

Mine is right around 12-13lbs. I never meant for it to get that heavy but, I customized it how I wanted lol. Does ok. Get a very nice sling. Or a very good pack to haul it. Other than that it was great.

While i'm waiting on my PRS2 and K525 i put my Tempest into my Brother's MPA and his Gen II PST on there certainly heavier than the previous config in the T4A that was 16lbs. Short 6.5x47 is still 12-13lbs as well. That k318i for it's size is weighty.

6.5 creed = 13.25
25-06 = 10.5
300WM = 9.25
I feel like my 300 is too light, the 06 is almost perfect and the 6.5 is too heavy. Looking to upgrade my 300 or trade it off for something in the 10.5-12 lb range.
I'll have to check out some of the slings mentioned.

Too much testosterone on this thread for me. I'm almost 70 and I still hunt out west (and back here in the east) and I'm not lugging any stick over 8 pounds.... period. That is scoped and loaded. Must be why I like skeletonized titanium receivers, and CF stocks with light contour tubes.
My Savage 338 Lapua is a tank at 16 pounds and if I ever took it hunting (doubtful), I'd be hiring a lackey to lug it for me.
I want to enjoy my hunt, not have a heart attack carrying a rock up a mountain and when I get to where I can take a shot, be so whipped I cannot even aim the stick.
You all can lug your lead sleds all you want to. I'll stay light, right and ready to go.
