I just got a Fury LR in 28 and Why the hell would you build a 28 nosler with a 1-8.5 twist and then put a short throat in it ? Makes no sense to me.
What the benefit to a quick twist 7mm cal if you have to bury the fricking bullet? They do most of there test targets with factory or loaded 160 ab which is not a long range bullet in my books.
The mag is 3.726" or close to that so why wouldn't you make use of it

Two reasons...

One, it's John Mogle.

Two, Built in Canada.

All my 28's are chambered with a factory length throat .181" freebore. I have 1-8" to 1-9" twist barrels and all have around the same load with a 195 eol & RL33 and can get 3000+fps I don't see that as a handicap. but that's just me.

It's always frustrating to find things do not work as you expect when you drop coin. Its honestly a very easy issue to remedy and infact in many cases you are better off. Now you can setup the specific bullet you want to use at the COAL you want and have it specifically throated to match. 5his rather than something randomly picked by the manf not knowing what your plans or goals are.

Also you have to consider the downfalls to making assumptionz without confirming things. We all have at some point, possibly numerous times, get burned by this. Took a few times for me, as I am hard headed, to finally ensure I confirm and not assume things that are important to me.

Case in point. Did you ask to have it made with a custom chamber or a extended throat to match a specific bullet COAL?

Was it advertised to have or be setup specifically for long throat?

If not then I would expect a saami chamber to minimum spec unless stated otherwise. Many hunters do not know squat about needed twist rates etc. You see it alll the time on other forms not dedicated to long high bc bullets like LRH members are. Think how they would feel getting a long throat and not being able to get any of their bullets anywhere near the lands and have accuracy issues from it?

If I was setting up a 28 for the longest high bc bullets it would be a minimum of 1:8 and actually 1.7.5 would be the ideal. That with a RUM size wyatfs dbm mag and reciever milled L. Setup to run the 197 smk loaded out as well as some of the CE and other long pointy monos with longer necks then the eol. With 9 tw standard 8.5 really is not fast today with what we have learned about achiving max bc and transonic stability at lr distances and the highest bc bullets.

I would set up a case and your bullet of choice to where you want it and have a smith throat it to that. Just make sure you leave yourself room to follow the intial throat errosions both interms of mag coal and bearing surface in the neck for proper tension. Don't want to end up with only .100 bearing surface left in the case neck as ths 28 does not exactly have a long neck.

What Fierce is is a very good production rifle, one of, if not, the best available. What they are not is a custom rifle. They, just like all other production rifle manufacturers including other higher end rifles like Christensen use SAAMI reamers. In reality, in my opinion, Nosler blew it when they designed the SAAMI throat but that is because they are still building 100 year old action lengths. If it bothers you that much have it throated by your gunsmith.

I have a standard chambered 28 nosler. I run the 195s at 3012 with Retumbo. I think I'm just under 3.6 with .03 off the lands. Berger originally recommended 3.499 as the COAL.

I've not pushed it to see how far I can go. I bet if I use R33 or 570 I would gain more speed.

I have a 8 twist though.

How much more speed does the .1 buy a gun?

Send it to Dixie Precision in Ms and let them deepen thr throat
They have built to custom 338's and bith will shoot one hole at 100 yards
Should cost around $300

Well short throat and all , I'm pretty happy. I shot a load the other day with 180 bergers and retumbo and it was 1/2 moa at 200 so I went to try it again. It was pretty good. 1" at 400 yards at 3218 fps.
I'm not even going to worry about the 195 bergers. The 180 will do every thing and more if there this accurate then 195 will at the distances I will be shooting.
The bottom 3 shots in the triangle were my 3 shot group.
One even went thru my hardend steel which might not be a good thing.

Kind of hard to worry when your load can hold 1/4 - 1/2 moa with a good bullet

A little research on your part is the problem.
