What’s Going On At LRH??

No different than the owner of this site...

How many builders aren't allowed to post here unless they pay?
but there are people that just sell here. you don't see them contribute on any other threads but they have many for sale threads. we lost a lot of knowledge from the builders that made this site what it was in the beginning

I didn' read all the replies in this thread, but guys are not hunting any more...rebuilding/building equals spare parts to sell...those who are not are gearing up for fishing season.

I see it every year on other forums...

As soon as I get my port engine lower unit rebuilt I will be back on the water my self.

I was directed to this site, from a search engine. I have been searching for a very specific rig for some time now. Well, it was on here. haven't been able to make a deal, but that's how I was drawn into the forum. While I am a novice, I do enjoy the sport of shooting. It combines personal discipline, mathematical derivatives, and mechanical skill. It is in fact an art. While I was drawn here due to the "classifieds" section, I joined for the wealth of knowledge that I gleaned in just the short time I was here on my first visit. Like many other things in life, it is as good as you want to make it. I would agree though, now that I'm here. It is kind of annoying clicking on the "new posts" and seeing a bunch of classifieds postings and very little of any other substance. It would be a good idea to separate the classifieds from informational posts.

Tags get tougher to draw, more opportunities for shooting than hunting.

I have to laugh-bought a fishing pole and reel for the first time in 30 years.

I don't have a problem with the sales post because I don't open anything that I'm not interested in. The one thing that can be done and I strongly advise, Is to look at the number of post the person has made other than sales post. This will tell you if these are shooters or sellers. Most shooters are honest.

There is no good way to sort these out without reading them But like Joel, I have noticed a lot more sales post lately.

I would suggest a seperate scroll just for the classifieds below the 2 for new posts. I'm admin on a bluewater fishing site and that is our method.
I try to check in in the summer but I run 2 boats as well as my own for fishing and commercial towing. The only trigger time is pistol indoors. I miss most of the matches due to being still on the water.

I think Facebook actually has a lot to do with the decline of good threads on LRH and other forums. Facebook came in and people started making groups focused on shooting hunting etc... I noticed myself being drawn to the Facebook groups because everyone that I joined had tons of questions to be answered and Facebook would automatically email me when something new came up in one of the groups. LRH doesn't have near the marketing power of Facebook nor the thousands of employees who's only job is to keep users from leaving the site. I realized not long ago that i was staying on Facebook because it was easier to ask people there than to log off and log in to LRH. However I have also become disgusted by FB and the overwhelming number of ignorant fools who do nothing but repeat other fools who have no experience. This site has been the top right there with accurateshooter.com and it will continue to be my go to. I don't think the classified section is a problem, if you go to 24hr campfire there are usually 10x more people viewing classifieds than any other forum at any given time.

I just joined this site as the hunting seasons were kicking off for 2017, so I have limited experience on what "normally" happens at this time of year.

But I suspect that the number of posts in the classified forums is about the same, but you don't have any one hunting (turkey just ended in Texas). Guys are not having things happen in the woods that prompts them to post about what ever happened...trying to get a load worked up for a hunt or following up on threads that started at the end of hunting season.

My turkey hunting story has had little to no action...I know we ambushed my wife's gobbler, but still I thought it would draw a bit more action. It was still a heck of shot!

This is a great discussion guys and my dad and I appreciate the input. We sure are proud of the fact that LRH remains a place where great information can be shared in a respectful manner.

Our forum guru is going to make some tweaks that will hopefully result in fewer of the New Posts being from the Classifieds. Stay tuned...

I think one of the reasons our Classifieds have grown in popularity is that our site seems to attract mainly good, stand-up folks who feel comfortable buying and selling from each other.

After spending a lot of time on the forum I started trading a lot with guys I met here, it's nice to have a place with enough stand up guys that you can buy something, try it, compare it, etc and be able to sell or trade it to do it all over again with the next one. I post more in the classifieds than anywhere else lately but it's mainly because there's a lot of texting/phone calls to other members, a lot of the guys I've met here have become close friends and we talk almost daily. The site is awesome and has more useful info than any other forum I've found, screwing around in the classifieds has just become an addiction for some of us. Having access to it allows us to be our own gear testers, which is great for me living in south fl where lr hunting gear isn't readily available to be seen in person and I have to buy blind. I couldn't afford to try all this new gear out if I didn't have an outlet to trade what didn't fill the bill. I do buy from the lrh store as well, after seeing items in the classifieds and gathering info from other members on them. I think it's a win win for members and the site personally.

Warning! This thread is more than 6 years ago old.
It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
