264 win or 6.5 284

Feenix ....ive already investigated those sites ...and more one must remember people will tell u whatever u want to hear when ur looking to buy then there are those that have there preference ...and they will preach there opinion ....If i could id have a 6.5 prc ...or a 6.5 stw ......maybe even a 6.6 \300 or a 6.5 wsm but those are not compatible here ........ MGM will build u a 6.5 prc sure but pressures and the stretching of a frame in a break open could be an issue..... bolt guns are different ...... as far as a 6.5 Sherman ...sounds good .....if i were a paper killer and competition shooter .... maybe sounds like alot of work to kill an antelope or a whitetail over a 600 yrd bean filed ...... simplicity ......right now the rebore and caliber is simplicity along with brass bullets ......besides i like doin what most people dont .........single shot ..... im a one shot kill kinda guy reloading for a second shot never interested me ...... if i were to build a bolt id make it a single shot no magazine ............... if i new i was going cause a ruckus i would have never even registered with this forum ......

Excellent! I am glad you've gone this route already but none of us knew, that is why a responded as I did. Have you opened your post like this, it would have been different.

There is no issue on my end. There are lots of people that are always willing and able to lend a helping hand. He does not post as much anymore but Ernie Bishop (IIRC, he lives in WY) into LRH/S single shots, but I think his was XPs.

Good luck on your endeavor and happy safe shooting and hunting.

I think most of us has that contagious illness. The .264 Win has always been in my wish list, one of these days, I'll just have to build one. Cheers!

archery nut,
Before I rechamber I would go and shoot the thing to see if it is even capable of decent accuracy. Unless it has a chamber issue, rechambering a new barrel is a gamble to me.
May be wasted time, energy, and money.
Just an opinion.

............... if i new i was going cause a ruckus i would have never even registered with this forum ......

You've caused no ruckus. Respectfully, and with all good humor, there was a helluva a lot you didn't tell us about this job when we signed on!:D

Always good to have someone else interested in single shots around. If I ever start another bolt from scratch it likely won't have a magazine to bother with either.

Stick around we're just beginning to figure out where you're coming from.o_O

Ill hang around i went and shot the 35 whelan on that encore today just had a tactical brake installed to give my should some relief hornady superformance 200 sp come out at 3020 and thats crankin for a 358. .. now its an all day shooter and back to the loading press with it ,,, i may just go get a box of 6.5 CM ammo and see what it does ......

If you are going 264 I think it's a good choice, 6.5 284 is good to I just prefer the 264, like Feenix its on my wish list to.

When my shoulder started acting up I couldn't take the recoil of my 300's and 338 magnums. I 'downsized' to the 264 over the 6.5x284. I'm really glad I did. Mine is a straight factory Winchester model 70 with a 26" barrel. Loading the 142 gr ABLR with RL33 I'm getting 3150-3200 with very consistent groups.
Seems like no matter what rifle I'm taking to the range, the 264 will be going along for a few shots as well.

What platform are you using for your single shot 6.5?
I just received my encore barrel in 264 win from MGM and installed a custom muzzle brake shot it this weekend for the first time still breaking it in but it shot great 3/4inch at 200

If you're considering a 264 Win Mag, you might as well step up and get a 26 Nosler.

26 nosler in a Encore platform ...... probably not a good idea not sure what the pressures r in a 26 nosler... but if a 6.5 prc streches frames from over stressing ..... wessman factory loads ? i plan om handloading
