6.5 Bullet options

2018-04-07 14.51.26.jpg

Shot this 5 shot group today...6.5 Creedmoor at 100yds.

Nosler 130gr RDF

While I have had good success with the Berger Hunting VLD 140's most of my game with my 6.5x284 at 3000FPS from 100-1000+ yards has been shot with 140/142 JLK VLD's. Lot to lot condistrncy is excellent, they are very accurate, and I'm impressed with the terminal performance on game over this wide range of distances.
Recovered with 65% weight retention from under the far hide of a heavy Mule Deer shot at 500+ Yards.

I stay qith the berger 140 vld-h in mine most others have shot ok but in mine the berger are the most consistent on cold bore shots

147s are my choice. With rl26 in your 6.5-284 you can run them up to 3000fps and the shoot well. 300yds 2842fps out of a 24" creed

Interesting ! That's close to what I hear the 6.5 PRC will do from what I have heard !
Currently running 150 SMKs at 3000 and 142 LRABs at 3100 in 6.5 PRC (26" barrel). Have a ladder ready for 143 ELD-X but waiting for wind to calm and have been busy with some new projects. Have yet to have heavy bolt lift on any of my PRC loads, just stopped bumping up loads as I began to lose sight picture due to increasing recoil. My goal with this rifle from the beginning has been to maintain sight picture

Had a chance to run a ladder on the 6.5 PRC with the 143 ELD-X this afternoon. A beautiful 93 degrees and a little wind on and off but the least amount we have had in a while. It looks like it will group well around 3000 fps. Just started to compress the powder charge so I stopped at 58.3gr of Retumbo. Target set at 300 yards. OAL was measured using Hornady comparator with the 26 insert. 0.010 off lands

This is one of those reading is fundamental threads...the OP was asking about 6.5x284 bullet options...:)

Greyfox is the man to go to...for the 6.5x284..I am a noob...

I have a good node at about 3125fps with the RDF 140s and I am closing in on another node getting close to 3200fps with a 28" Proof barrel...same velocity with the Berger 140 EOLs, but not as accurate as the RDFs...

Pushing the 150s at a node close to 3100fps...

Using RL26 and Russian Mag primers...

Have fun and buy a jug of RL26...for the 6.5x284 heavies...
