Low power scope

Was looking for a lower power with caps on windage and elevation. Had been leaning towards the nightforce shv 3-10x42 seeing if anyone has i thought.

I put a 2-10 Burris veracity on my 240. Then put a custom elevation turret on it. It's a nice scope.

What i can see the elevation comes with cap

It does then you can buy a custom turret from Burris after and replace it if you wish.

If I were scoping a brush gun, Vortex Razor LH 1.5-8x would be at the top of my list. It is really a compact and light weight scope. Optical quality is remarkably good. Capped turrets, solid mechanics... Great basic scope. The G4 reticle is somewhat unconventional, but really functional for fast target acquisition and making snap shots.

Vortex also makes a 2-10x and 3-15x in this series - though they are both bigger in form factor and only the latter has adjustable parallax.

These days I just use a reflex sight (3moa dot) for pushing bush, but I understand the desire for more flexibility. Previous to the reflex I dabbled with peep sights, 'scout' mount... I tried a few different conventionally mounted scopes too. In that configuration I found Leupold's firedot really effective (I have a VXR 3-9x). In fact the magic of the fire dot is what got me onto the reflex idea.

Short story long, I don't have a sling on my brush gun - which is of little use slung over my shoulder! The sling is good at making noise (swivels) and hanging up on branches. I carry the rifle my hand(s) and appreciate the ~1lb weight savings of scopelesness. Also it goes in and out of a scabbard like a dream.

Dont get me wrong - I am recommending a scope... Just sharing a little context in what I've found effective through years of success, failure and the desire to improve.

If you like the idea of a firedot, (which can be handy when you can't make out your crosshairs against a background of black spruce) Leupold's VX6HD 2-12x may be worthy of consideration. I have no personal experience with this line, but a few members here really seem to like them.

Thanks i have looked at the vortex and i have a few on other guns and relly like them just seeing other options cant own them all ha. Cant do nothing with a gun across tour back sling good at times you right

I used a SHV 3-10 on my rifle for a sheep hunt. I wanted a NF but needed to shave weight and wanted covered turrets. In my mind it is a very good scope. Enough power to shoot 500+. Yet Nightforce tracking and plain ole tough. I recommend one to anyone. I am going to put the 5-20 SHV on my 28N

The leica 2-10s for 550 are pretty tempting.

Razor hd lh looks really nice for the price.

I don't think you will dislike the shv

The vortex razor hd lh 2-10x40 should be a good contender for your uses.

Optics planet has the VX-5HD on sale with a free benchmade knife. I got two of these Benchmade knives with recent VX-5HD scope purchases. This is really nice glass with 30mm tube.



For $1200 you could get the VX-6HD with firedot, CDS-ZL2 and Alumina Flip covers.

I use the shv 3-10 on a couple rifles and like them real well. Use to be a big fan of the nxs and still have some and like them quite well. But as I've gotten older I have looked for ways to lighten some of my pack hunting rifles. The shv has seems to fill the bill. Another scope you might consider is the Leupold vx5. The one I have is the 3-15. It seems to be a very nice scope. Decent glass and tracks well. Believe the lower powered one has capped turrets and is even lighter. Good luck
