some rifles simply will not eat some bullets. I could not get an acceptable group from the 175 eld-x with my 7stw until I decided to switch it up and go old school. I am running 85gr 50BMG with the 175 eld-x in Bertram brass with a 215 lighting the fire at roughly 3.8" oal.. It seems to be able to hit 1/2 moa, but I am still fire-forming brass so time will tell.

Yes for sure,I got lb of 7828,I'll burn through that in her.Ill have to rebarrel before I even get a chance to hunt with it !!!

Well guys I've been off work for a few weeks, and finally hade some time to experiment/shoot. Using 180 vld's, RL33, Remington 8mm necked down brass, fed gm 215 primers. Was getting great groups I mean great, other then the occasional flyer I couldn't explain. Well I turned the necks consistent to the virgin 8mm brass, still my sd was for crap. I have a few Winchester I've been holding back for a rainy day. Well this was it loaded a few up sd of 6. Well me being me I thought what was the issue with Remington brass being all over heck. Well I scratched my head measured, checked, rechecked, etc. well I turned the Remington necks to match the Winchester and I be dang single digit sd. The Remington was averaging 40-75 with some way out at times. Also this barrel is fast I mean fast, I'm dang near matching the max velocity at the starting load Berger gave me. Absolutely so signs of any pressure average is 3050 with win, 3090 with Remington using 81 gr RL33. Which is a light load even per quick load. What you guys think?

Kyshooter, sounds like you've near got her dialed in. I never did any neck turning, I NOW, understand it's benefits, in rifles , that don't even hsve tight necks. You proved it, and others may want to take notes, that some of us haven't tried.......YET!.

After some thinking I believe it came down to more adjusting the neck tension with the turning then consistency. This rifle is a custom build throated for the Berger 180's. So it is a little tighter chambered then a factory spec rifle.

I've been wanting one for awhile, was gping to have something rechambered . But I just came acrossed a never been fired M70 from 1997. Must have been a safe queen.....let the fun begin !!!

Better snatch that one up. Those are shooters, and don't take much to get her to do so.
Quite a few of us have owned, a winny or two, and they are no slouch in the shooting dept!
Brother Bean had the beast, I had a Sharpshooter, and truth be told, we wish we had them back.
Classic, comes to mind, in more ways then one. Enjoy, read back a few hundred pages, you might even find sone recipes. If not, we'll hook you up.

I've had a later 90s vintage stw Winchester Claw 26 inch blued traded her for two other rifles , should have keep her, had my smith stone the trigger under 2 lbs ,someone got lucky maybe it's you ,Fine Fine,Rifles ,great shooters ta boot !!!

Those Winchesters triggers were awesome. They could easily be taken under two lbs, with no creep, and safe too!
I have a nineties seven mag, m70, that stupid accurate, and sweet trigger.
In a lot of ways, and more tgen you think, they are a superior rifle to most Remingtons.
Barrels are really well done.

Very well said Brother, I still think the new Claw Winchesters Rocked they locked like a vault ,smooth feeding actions , T-Rex ready ... Yeah we Honor the Winchester name !!! Remington ,Sako,Ruger & Weatherby also chambered the 7 STW & MR Layne Simpson ! To we Rember You !!!

I just joined the forum and thought I should post to the sub forum that led me here.
I recently acquired a used Weatherby Mark V with factory 26" barrel in 7 Wby rechambered to STW. Cleaned it up, replaced the black plastic stock with deluxe wood, bedded and floated. Topped it off with a Swarovski z5.
Now trying to get it to shoot... Factory trigger is inconsistent, usually breaks at around 4 pounds, but every 5 or 6 pulls, at 2 something. Fiddling with that and working up handload with RL26. Factory Nosler giving 1.25" to 1.75" with flakey trigger.
