CCI 250 didn't go bang

I plink and shoot ground squirrels with, CCI's ,.. I HUNT Big Game with, Federal 215's and Winchester primers,.. SERIOUSLY !

The cups are harder on CCI 250 that Federal primers I am sure.
Another thing to take into thought is the strength of the firing pin spring. I know from experience and that of a friend that has been a gun smith for 40+ years that especially in the older Ruger 77 rifles that the firing pin springs do loose power over time and will start having misfire problems. The only other time I have and misfire problems was with Wolf Russian primers and this was do to me not knowing that I needed to put a lot more pressure on my Lee hand priming tool to seat them deep enough to have the slightly higher anvil in them push back and compress the priming pellet so they would fire. Once I learned this I have had no problems.
Then there is the possibility that it could be production related the way that the factories' are running full bore. I am a pistol instructor and there for a while some of the 22lr ammo coming out was junk. Misfires and hangfires and even one box of Remington had some bullets that would break apart into two or three pieces when fired. Fire on shot from 3 yards and there were two or three holes in the target. Strange.

I have had bad batch of Winchester lg. R primers in the last couple of years in my rifles and a friends. no problems with cci yet.

Here are three things that cause misfires this with the harder cupped CCI primers. If you address these faults, you will most likely never experience another misfire with CCI primers.

1. Underpowered firing pin spring
2. Too little firing pin protrusion
3. Primer not fully seated in the pocket

jjmp......anything else I can do to lighten your days troubles....
Yes..always fun to be siting..shooting a good group..then thump..and there's goes the concentration........might as well pack up and go home...because I just know it is gonna happen again..sometime.....

26RL, Thk you!! And yes your rite again today , was shooting today first spring shoot had a tight 2 shot s half over each other and blew the 3 half inch hi, said w t heck and fired the forth one bingo .243 minus 3/8 I'm happy oh sorry....,,,, for the record cci"s have been great thks

I bought two firing pin springs...one Remington la(28#)...other for the 260 ruger mk77(24#)....the Remington fit okay...but there was no way the ruger was going to fit without cutting the spring in half....its still at the gunsmiths...told him to keep it to use unless I need it again....but so far not......

federal 215m primers ...... i had none that didnt fire at all for about 4 years , talk about cci's being unpredictable

I fired thousands upon thousands of CCI 250s without a single misfire. I've seen enough of this sample to confidently say that if you're experiencing misfires, the problem is the rifle not the primer.

That said, there may be bad primer lots out there. I've just never experienced it.
