Update. So I found one today new in the box. I bought it . It is set up for #11 caps. What conversion kit do I buy to make it 209 ?

Blackpowder, I had one of those, years ago, and it was the same as yours, in 50 cal.
I was able to get the conversion kit at the time from many local gun dealer, which I believe he got from Remington direct.
Not sure , under there present circumstances, if it's that easy, but you probably can google it.
I think I have seen them on Natchez, or Midway catalogues.
I'm almost sure Midway would have it, if not, Brownells, will surely have it. Good luck, enjoy.
Those things shoot!

Badger ridge for sure , don't waste your money on any of the Remington conversions. I tried that already

One thing to keep in mind with the standard #11 set up I know for sure but I don't know about 209 set up, is you MUST take the bolt apart and clean it well after EVERY shooting session or it will rust up. Powder residue blows back into the bolt body and it does not take but a few damp or humid days until it will rust so bad that it will not fire. I used to see this all the time when they first came out with people bringing them into my friends gun shop complaining they would not shoot. Was not long before they were dumping them and going to Knight rifles.

That is good to know. I know a few people that have used these Remingtons to build smokeless muzzle loaders. One fellow uses one to do some outstanding long range deer killing. Everything right down to the bullet is custom made though and he knows exactly the yardage for any shot and exactly what should be the results of his shot at that distance from previously testing. He is retired and a bachelor and is wealthy and owns the land he hunts and does nothing but shoot, hunt & trap and fish.

What is the distance that these muzzle loaders are capable of for a deer sized target?
Thanks

Using two pellets with powerbelt 245 gr bullets I took a deer at 282 yards.I had practiced out to 300 so I had a good idea where to hold .Cabelas has the best conversion kit for 209 primers
