Remington 700 5r 300 win mag

I got my new set of Jags today, and I tried them out, its not a false positive. I still have copper in the barrel. Iam now sure that this rifle has been used for more then testing at the Remington plant. I just did a quick swab through the barrel and there was still quite a bit of green on the patch. I have used a nylon bristle brush to help losesen up the stuff in there and used Boretech cleaner and Frog Lube. There is still carbon and copper coming out. I will do a more extensive cleaning as I did not get the jags until late evening. I am really disturbed that a dealer would sell a used gun as new. Not that the gun is beat up, but it was not new as advertised. Sad
Yeah, I would definitely be taking that up with the dealer... Sounds like they sold you a "demo" rifle, or one that was sold, shot, then sent back, and then tried to pass-off as "new". I'd have them send you a new one, and possibly demand a partial refund for the headache.

Even when breaking in a custom barrel, I've gotten a lot of blue out of the barrel with the first shots. You actually want the manufacturer to shoot your gun. More is better. Henry claims to shoot/test their rifles with a full magazine before they ship and that's partially why, when you buy a Henry, it works right. Those first shots will leave a bunch of copper though. If somebody behind the counter took the gun out for a joy ride, they'd likely clean it inside and out, before selling it to hide things.

I contacted Remington and they said they only shoot single rifles in batches, and only a couple rounds. The amount of copper I am getting out of this barrel is way beyond a couple of rounds down the tube. The gun has been extensively fired, and most likely someone did attempt to clean it some, like the carbon out of it somewhat. I wish it was as you say, but I am a very experienced gun owner, spent most of my adult life in the Army around guns, and know this is not a couple rounds to check it out.
