Savage 16/116 lightweight hunter

If your going to spend the money to by a savage lightweight, just buy a Tikka T3 lite! for the same price its a hell of a lot more of a gun than the savage. better trigger, stock, action, side bolt release, sako extractor ect.

Bought one for my son in 7-08, liked it so much that I kept it for myself and gave him a stainless Axis (7-08 as well) with a rifle basix trigger and 2-7 Leupold. He's 12 and shoots it quite well.
Yes the stocks kinda suck, but at 7lb 1/4oz (Talley's, Leupold VX1 3-9, 4 rounds and synthetic sling all on the scale) it sure is nice to carry around. 120's are nice to shoot, 150's are pretty snappy recoil wise.

Revive an old thread.
Finally got a scope on the lightweight hunter and got to the range. Pretty happy with how the gun shoots for $500 after the rebate.

I too have a savage lwh I'm shooting 143gr eldx w rl17 getting sub moa at 2705 fps from 20 in barrel took it up over 2800 fps but accuracy was at the lower speed. Love this rifle leupold vx3i 3-10 windplex with cds shoots out to 700 yds no problem

The stock is made by Bettin Custom Guns. I purchases the rifle used off another forum. The guy I bought it from sent them the barreled action and they custom fit it to the stock. Very high quality in my opinion.( this is my first semi custom gun and aftermarket stock, just to give you my experience with stocks) I Love it. Very light and stiff. It seems very durable. I've only had the rifle a month. Load development was way easier with this rifle then the wood stock gun. wood stock is 308 and custom stock is 7mm-08. I've only shot the 7mm-08 2 different times. First time with 150 ABLR. Varget and Winchester 760 powders and only had 1 group over and inch. the rest were under. next time with 120 TSX and big game and varget. the biggest group was right at an inch and smallest at half inch. All groups at 100 yards, prone, bi-pod and a sweat shirt for a rear bag. So that's saying something. because i'm not the "best shot". I hope that answers your question. If not feel free to ask or send me a pm if you would rather do that. The stock still accepts the factory savage magazines as well. You can get custom made detachable magazines from the stock company if you would want to go that route.
