$14,000 rifle?

Say $700 action
$750 barrel
$900 for the stock
$1000 for gunsmith and coating, extra mags and extra stuff--case
$1,500 for ammo
$1,700-2000 scope

What about 7K...then double it...thats how you stay in business...hope they sell a bunch! Love what they are doing and how they are doing it. I will not be a rifle customer for them--but will buy a stock or two from them in the future.

We just spent almost a week hearing rationalizations why we don't need a particular style of rifle, and attacks on the part of "society" that wants them.

Them is us, speak your mind, but don't feign surprise when someone else speaks theirs, and fails to validate your overly simplistic, and unnecessarily divisive opinion.

Yes HARPERC! Yes!!!
I would rather not bash the makers or the customer for buying one. If anything, I would admire, and be inspired by their success!

And you haters keep forgetting that they are only making 100 of them...it's not a PRODUCTION rifle. How many people buy Robars for $10,000 without ammo or a "shooting class" or free barrel replacement for life?

If you can't afford it (like me), or just don't want to buy it, or can build your own for less, then awesome...more power to you!

I like how this thread turned from a rifle thread to hating on LR companies making a business selling LR stuff to "newbies"...if it wasn't for newbies buying stuff and companies like Gunwerks innovating new products you'd all still be shooting 30-30's and complaining about something else!

It's absurd to us granted. Even myself with two rifles which i spared no expense on, don't near that cost. That said it's a free market they do make decent products albeit overpriced. For those willing to spend the money who only want to pull the trigger and nothing else i can see the appeal. I myself would never own one knowing how grossly overpriced it is. Just different strokes for different folks. Hell my plan eventually is to cut out trips to the smith all together and get my own lathe. Would pay for itself as much as i intend to shoot.

This whole deal reminds me of a conversation I overheard between two contractors and a neighbor lady.. I'll giv the cliff notes version.
A big rock was in the way. It would cost about $300 to get rid of the rock. The guys were joking about it being a pain in the neck and said they should just sell the darn thing for $3000 as a "Landscaping Rock". The lady overheard them griping and said that she wanted a $3000 rock. They tried to say she could have it for the cost of moving it, but she was adamant about getting her $3000 rock.
Some people just want their $3000 rock to say that they have one.
I make sure to properly name the things I sell these days.

I don't think that anyone is trying to stop someone from buying one of these rifles at all. The price in relation to the quality of the parts is the issue as I see it.

There are many items that are over priced, That people still buy because they can, not because it is better.

I have seen/met gunsmiths that Overcharge for components by marking them up 40+%. It doesn't make the rifle any better, only more expensive.

At some point the price is based on the name and not anymore quality so the post are just warning the uninformed that $14,000.00 is a bit to much and not a good value for the money spent.

I did some price checking for components and without markup here is what I came up with for high quality parts.

Actions = 1200.00 to 1500.00 dollars
Barrels = 400.00 to 600.00 dollars
Stocks = 600.00 to 1,000.00 dollars
custom trigger = 200.00 to 350.00 dollars

Adding custom loaded ammo 200.00 a box and gunsmith fees that are variable, the basic components would cost less than 3,450.00 before markup if all of the highest priced parts were used. And 2400.00+ for the average priced quality parts.

So If a person wants to buy a product with this much markup, and knows the real value, good for him. If he wants to buy a truck for 90,000.00 that the base price of the truck is 35,000.00 dollars he will and does all the time. but he knows that it is not a good deal, just that he wants it.

Firearms are the same, some are worth what is being ask and some are not. and as long as the buyer knows this, all is good. the perception that price dictates quality only goes so far. at some point it becomes overpriced and is no better than less expensive firearms.

I can understand the frustrations of some members that know the real value of any firearm and see extreme markups on some knowing what the person is getting. In there defense, they are trying to protect the buyers by explaining the actual value and letting them make a educated decision, not telling them they should not buy it. (That doesn't work anyway).

Just My opinion

Ah yes but ..A Kolar, Purdy. Kreighoff shotgun will shoot a million shells and
go to your Great Grandkids...Will this rifles bore last like that? ..I doubt it
Apples to Oranges...I have a Kolar with carrier barrel and full subgauge tube set.
It was expensive? But when I competed I shot an average of 500 shells every week!
So times a year that rifle would be "shot out" in short order? My Kolar still Rocks!

Has anyone gone to their site? It's currently sitting at $8,221.75.

$2,505 in ammo from Midway USA
$2,425 for the Nightforce

$4,930 in just those two things. I know most people load, myself included, I've bought less then 400 rounds of factory ammo in the past ten years, but not everyone does.

So with a few minutes if searching, I've found the price is $3,291.75 for the rifle, doesn't seem terrible to me. That's not taking into account the discount for suppressor, hard case, custom turret or their class.

In today's society, I feel that as firearms owners we need to band together. I'm sure everyone here that sells a firearm doesn't want maximum value for it, but this business does. The American way is to set your own price and feel confident in it. Was it a mistake for them to send an email out for a 14k rifle? Heck yes, but they amended that quickly after listening to the shooting public. Does Remington keep their ear to the shooting forums like this? Don't know if they would have gone belly up if they did...

Will I buy one? No way, but I'm proud to be part of an industry where they can offer their products for what they want.

Band together, this is the time we need to be unified more so than ever.

Just a poor guy from Maine's opinion, it's worth as much as you paid for it..

Very well said! It makes a lot more sense when broken down to perspectives that most of us can better comprehend and appreciate. Cheers!

Still laughing over this whole thread, when I think ....I only paid $1800 for my pickup. It's a17yrs old Dodge RAM 4X4. I could leave NC today and drive it across this whole country of ours if I needed to.

Not bashing the guys who build or buy these rifles. I like looking at the ads, gives me a chuckle. They just might sell all 100 (1.5 mill-e-on dollurs!). To each his own, that's American!

I don't have $14000 total in rifles/guns/pistols and scopes but I'm confident with my NF scoped Savage's and Leupold scoped Remington's out to and past 1000 yds. Just like North Carolina's motto, "Esse quam videri". (translated; To be, rather than to seem).
