When I was pushing the 195 with retumbo, I didn't realize it at the time, but it was ruining the primers pockets pretty quick.

I have thought about ordering one, but my brass gets tossed before I run into that issue. I am curious also to see how well they work. Primers fall out before my brass swells.

I bought a Savage 116 7 mag so I don't have to do these tests with my Benchmark barrel .

I think my next test will be using that collet die and see what kind of difference it will make.

Just curious? Why not get a 28 Nosler? 195 with zero pressure with a 26 inch barrell in a standard chamber(3000-3050). Or throat it especially for the 195s and push over 3200 FPS.

none belted and fits in a standard chamber.

I just love the 7RM.

Easy to load for. Brass is cheap. Barrel life is crap but barrels are consumables.

Same thing could be asked to people who shoot a 6.5 Crudmoor over the 260.

I bet you are a doghunter from SC?

Brass is probably about the same if your are only getting a firing or two. Also you won't be close to the pressure limit. 200 to 300 FPS more. The 28 is easiler to load for I have both the 7RM and the 28.

I have zero time behind it with a 28 Nosler. All my experience between the 2 is with the 7RM. My PPU brass was tough as nails and finally started getting case head separation after 6-7 firings. The case capacity was absolutely terrible. 63.5 was nearly compressed while my win brass has been loaded 70.5 before I seen pressure signs. I settled in at 68.5 of RL26. It works well for me. Where at in SC are ya?

Tennnn 4. I'm from Harleyville. I dog hunt also but I run those half fox walkers/ half tree stock.

Because I bought an amp annealer and a 1500 scale set up, 28 Nosler sounds like a future project.

I was getting darn close to sending you those 195s but now they like 7828 SSC. I am going to get a speed tomorrow.

So at 60 grains of 7828 SSC, I am getting 2788 fps and primer looks good.

At 100 yards 3100 lbs of energy
At 1316 yards. 1001 lbs of energy.


I will finish developing this and get some hot and cold velocity. I will see what the accuracy is with both. Then off to the steel range. Then I will hopefully get a spring bear in Idaho with it.

I received the belted magnum collet die from Larry Willis. I didn't know that you needed some modification with the Forster press, but maybe there is something to this.

Here are three loaded rounds, that I placed in the collet die gauge and it appears too much expansion.

We have been busy but I finally did some speed testing.

We had some brass that has been fired 2-3 times that wasn't neck turned.

At 61 grains on 7828 SSC here is the velocity for 5 shots.
1. 2775
2. 2769
3. 2769
4. 2755
5. 2755

I have 150 pieces of brand new Winchester Brass that have been neck turned. I loaded 5 of these with 61 grains 7828 SSC.

1. 2755
2. 2757
3. 2751
4. 2748
5. 2755

9 ES and 3.24 SD

The 7828 is looking promising.

That's exceptional ES and SD! I've always had good luck with Winchester brass. I use Nosler these days, but I still use Win brass for several cartridges, because it's inexpensive and I bought lots of bulk of once-fired Winchester brass cheap back when finding new brass was nearly impossible (during the Obama gun ban attempts).

7828 SSC has been my preferred powder for 7mmRM for many years, but I also plan on testing some 7977 (Enduron series powder) that I've had sitting around for several years. I also plan on testing 7977 in 7mm STW, .300WM, and .300 Ackley.

I wish I had a 1:8 twist barrel, or I would be happy to help do some testing of my own...at 581' ASL. I have 3 boxes of the very first run of the Berger 195 Elite Hunters that I bought years ago, but haven't gotten around to ordering a 1:8 barrel. I'll probably wait until I get the cash to pull apart and rebuild my 2nd 7mm STW, and rebarred to a .28 Nosler to test them.
