The faster the bullet velocity, the lower the bullet impacts???

a 250gr Jacketed Hornady XTP at 1000fps is spot on with factory buck horn sight. Increase the velocity to 1,200fps and its 1.25" low at 25 yds. Increase to 1,500fps and its 4" low, increase to 1,800fps and its 6" low.

Velocity is verified with chronograph, I've also verified this by shooting factory cowboy loads, vs. hot factory "bear loads". Same thing happens, hot loads hit low. It seems the more recoil - the lower the impact. Happens if shooting off bags or off hand. At 100yds the fast bullets hit 2 feet low!

Anyone know what is going on here?

Could it be your twist rate? Have you tried a heavier lead bullet?

Here you go..... in a cartridge as slow as a 45 colt from a carbine, the slower bullet impacts higher due to the longer "dwell" time in the barrel after ignition. I has more of an opportunity to be affected by the recoil rise. Now, speed up that bullet and you end up with a lower impact since the bullet leaves the barrel sooner after firing. I've had identical results in my 454 Super Redhawk when changing bullet weights. I want to say that the slower lighter practice rounds were always higher ont he target than the heavy hitting full power 454 loads. Enough so that I'd have to adjust the scope for different loads even at closer ranges.

Well, I must admit that I'm skeptical of this explanation, but I can't counter with anything better.

Wouldn't a faster projectile also shoot flatter? Less arc and at those short distances you're seeing the full effect of that arc in such a slow, heavy round?? Just an idea....
