Hello all
I'm building a hunting rifle. I have decided and put in to motion a .284 Win Short Action. I know the short action .284 will cause some issues. I am educated and prepared to make it work.

I am using a custom action (700 footprint). I have decided on a 24 in Pac Nor Sendero profile barrel. I have my trigger, bottom metal, scope mount, and optic picked out.

However I cannot decide on a stock. I keep looking at the Greyboe Terrain. I don't have a lot left to spend on this project around 400 is all I want to spend. I really like the Manners EH4 but it is out of my price range. I want a vertical grip but do not want a big bulky benchrest stock. I have looked at the stockys stuff but I'm unsure of the quality. Is there another brand I should look at other than Greyboe? Is the stockys stuff ok? Would I be better off to keep trying to find something used?

Thanks
Matt

Have you looked at bell and Carlson? They make the new long range stock with the slim Forend, vertical grip, and adjustable cheek piece. It's right at $400. It's a really sleek looking stock. They also have the standard vertical grip stock with the fatter, benchrest forend for $279.

I will check it out thanks

Here you go. All the stocks are between $279-$500. You can order from stockys or bell and Carlson.

Is the full length block better in your opinion than typical pillars like the Greyboe?

Yes and no. Grayboe, McMillan, and manners, etc...have stronger composite materials so they only need to do pillar beds in the stock. HS and BC have different composite materials that aren't as strong as the before mentioned stocks. They make up for it in the ful length aluminum bedding block. You won't go wrong with either in my opinion. I own BC M40s, Manners, and McMillian. They all serve their purposes well.

Also if you want to keep it really cheap but still have good quality, check out Boyds Laminate stocks. Pillar bed them and your good to go, they have a featherweight thumb hole, varmint thumb hole, pro varmint, and At One stock that would all fit your criteria, and all $200 or less.

In order below:

Boyd's Pro-Varmint
Boyd's At One
Boyd's Featherweight Thumbhole
