New Wisconsin Long Range Shooting Facility

Great to hear. I will definitely be visiting you when you open. Also would be interested in taking some classes. My in laws live in Freedom and I live a hour away.
Good luck and hope you get something started.

You had mentioned about having a long distance or ELR class, what did you have for ideas or training?
I know of a few that like shooting long.

I am currently taking a law class. I am also waiting for the property to come available. I have talked with the current owner of the property and we are working on an agreement from current owner of the property. At this time, if there are any questions about long range shooting, please feel free to ask. It may take some time for people to purchase the necessary equipment for the classes and now would be a good time to 1. Decide what the target is going to be(steel, deer, hard targets, ect...) 2. Choose a cartridge and projectile to fulfill the mission requirements, 3. Find an optic with the proper travel based on presumed distance to the target. None of the required equipment has to be expensive but it must meet strict criteria. Usually semi auto is not the preferred choice for shots exceeding 300 yards. But the most the weakest part of any equipment set up is the optic. The SWFA SS fixed 10 power optic is the perfect choice for new and even experienced shooters. The scope can be purchased for around $295 and fills all of the requirements for long range shooting. However, it is important to note that the weakest part of any firing system is usually the lack of education on the part of the shooter. Tiborasusrex offers his "Sniper 101" series on YouTube. I highly recommend watching all of the videos in their entirety. If you have any particular questions about equipment selection please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. I would like to take this time to thank everyone for their enquirers about the potential range and training facilities.

Dear Wisconsin Shooters,
I am thinking about opening a new range that would reach out to 1.5 miles. I am deeply disappointed that we Wisconsin residents have only one place to shoot long range. Further more this range would be open to the public, no $300 member fee or waiting list required, and would include a 50 yard range, a 100 yard range and a pistol range. This range would be located somewhere near Freedom, WI, for those of you who are unfamiliar, right in between Appleton and Green Bay.
Now I am aware there is not much need for this type of facility as the hunting community usually does not take shots this long. However, I feel like there are many people who would attend classes and would like to learn how to shoot at greater distances if they knew how and had the place to practice.
In addition I would open a shop for you to buy primers, brass, powder, bipod and all the necessary equipment. We would also have our own competitions for whoever would like to participate with quality prizes given to the winner.
However good this may sound to you, I am not going to open if there is little response. I am not in the business of throwing money down the toilet. So if you live in Wisconsin, or in surrounding states and would be willing to travel, please leave a comment yes or no, why or why not, if if you have any good ideas please let me know. Thank you for your most valuable time and consideration.

Fantastic. I used to live up in the Minocqua area when in high school but haven't lived in the state since UW-Milwaukee in 98. Army from 87-2016. Going to be back in the Milwaukee area by July. Currently running 308, 6 Dasher and a 223 DMR all corked out to 1000-1500 here in Colorado.
Shooting, hunting and fishing as often as possible is my only goal.

Joshua, If you are interested in holding PRS type matches and need info on range set-up to accommodate up to 100 shooters get in touch with me. I started the Border War Rifle Series in the upper midwest a 10 state rifle league of 24 matches. 380 members. I,m also hosting a 2 day PRS match in Iowa in June.

I'd make the drive up from Sauk City for it. I've shot at the range in Lodi a few times, are you going to set your place up similar to that? You should also check with some local/county police departments. I'm sure they'd be interested and could maybe even help financially. There was a DNR plan in place to try and add more public ranges to Wisconsin, but I haven't heard much in the last year and it probably got shelved.

Josh,

I live in Green Bay and am really hopeful this goes through. I'm looking to get more into the long range shooting scene. I'm not currently certified to teach any firearm related classes, but if you need help with construction of the facility or if one of the teachers would need assistance, let me know.
