SHV vs SWFA

Anyone have any first hand experience with both the SHV 5-20 and the SWFA 5-20? I'd lik e to hear how they compare.

This boils down on personal preference, SFP vs FFP. I went through this about 3 years ago or so, but are good scopes but went with the SWFA 5-20x50 HD FFP on my .300 WSM. It is an awesome scope for the money, excellent clarity for my old eyes and exceptional tracking.

Thanks. I'd like to hear from those who have experience with both. How does the glass compare? Tracking and eye relief, etc.

I did a side by side comparison of the two, the clarity is comparable but give the slight edge to SWFA (at least for my eyes). The SHV has an eye relief of 3.14" to 3.54" while the SWFA has 4.00", again the edge to the SWFA. The turret clicks for me are good on both and have no preference. Choose the SHV if you prefer SFP and the SWFA if you prefer FFP. Obviously I cannot test tracking at the store but as noted on my previous post, they are awesome. While I do not have hands on experience with the SHV afield, many are very happy with them all around.

Here are a couple of couple of SWFA 5-20 reviews online ...

Good luck!

Thanks Feenix. I really don't have a preference between FFP and SFP. I have both and am used to both. I really wish there was somewhere I could get my hands on both to compare.

Both are solid scopes. Buy them both and sell the one you don't like for a minimum loss. We've got both and personally I would happily use either of them. Actually my preferred long range scope is the SHV 4-14x50 F1 with Mil reticle. So that makes 3 I would happily use with preference being the F1.

Thanks. I've got the SHV F1 now. It's eye relief is a little short for me and I'm wanting something with a little more room.

I know exactly what you mean, my side by side comparison was after the fact (after I already purchased the SWFA. The SWFA store (unless you know somebody that has both) is perhaps the only place that might be able to do it.
