Ok I have a Ruger M77 markii 270 left handed. The gun is accurate with the right load, but I hate the stock it's just the factory wood stock. What would be some good options for this gun for a stock? How do I know if it's a tang safety or what for ordering a stock? Thinking of upgrading stock bedding it and a trigger for now. After barrel is shot out then build off it. Now I had an accurate load with h4831 and 140g accubonds but they were only chronographed at 2650 or so. Was like 55g of h4831 with federal brass and fed210match primers. Doesn't this seem a little on the slow side? I know it's only a 22" barrel but it seems super slow. I can get faster then that with my 6.5creedmoor. Been thinking of trying rl26 with either 130ttsx or 129lrx. Any advice would be great. Will be used mostly for deer but elk and moose when I get to draw one.

I don't know of any aftermarket options, other than McMillan, Hogue, and possibly Boyds. You could try contacting Manners to see if they make one, or would make you one.

As for tang safety or not, does the safety look like this?

Or like this...

If your safety is the top one, then you have an older tang safety rifle. If it's like the bottom one, then you have a newer M77 MKII which has the 3-position safety.

Ok I have the newer one that's three position. Now I have looked on McMillans sight and don't see the offering in my action do I have to just call?

Ok well for anyone that wants to know looks like there's not much for companies working with Ruger stocks. So far McMillan is the only composite one that I see I tried manners, hs precision, grey boe, and bell n Carlson and McMillan is the only one that makes any. If you know of someone that does let me know and I'll consider them. I have a glare different choices to go with gamewarden, HTG, or the classic, hunter, and the varmint is what McMillan recommends for my use.

Bell and Carlson used to make stocks for the MKii and Hawkeye, the Carbelite series. They can be found used fairly easily and are pretty good stocks. I've used Boyd's laminate on some Rugers with great luck too. Hogue makes a couple stocks for them, that are OK, but it's up to your preference. I do wish there were more options out there for the different M77s though!

I scored a factory laminate for my Ruger and really like it. I know you are looking for a composite stock, but a Boyd's laminate (combined with some elbow grease) is tough to beat.

Accurate Innovations offers various wood or laminate stocks with an aluminum bedding block, but they are spendy.

ETA: Well, they USED to do laminates. Now it looks like they just do walnut.
