Long story short...Master piece arms barrel, 300 win mag, 100 rounds down the barrel. I bought a bore scope and decided to take a look at my "new" barrel. What I would like to know is...Should I be worried about what I found? Some strange gouge marks in several spots. Heres some pics...

The last few that have the red/orange looking stuff are in the chamber area

Yep, poor machining, material quality, and some horrible tool marks. You can maybe get the chamber polished-out, and possibly get the bore hand-lapped by a gunsmith to help remove some of those nasty gouges.

MPA has a half MOA guarantee. I haven't even shot this gun enough yet to fully develop a load to see how it shoots. Should I shoot it for a while and see how it goes, or just ask that they exchange it for a new one? Is this likely gonna be a problem child barrel that fouls a lot and I'm always chasing my tail with I wonder.

I would, I gunsmith buddy of mine, told me not to buy a bore scope if I want to sleep at night.

Ditto! Get your hard earned money's worth. If they are a reputable organization, they will make it right.

Excellent advice! I am not sure if it is still an option but Lilja used to offer a video tape of your barrel purchase for $25 IIRC.

The bummer part is after I did a simple barrel break in, I shot about 30 rounds over my magneto speed and found a really big node with great numbers. So now I loaded up 50 rounds all around that node at varying seating debts to dial it in. If I switch out barrels I'm gonna have to start all over again...frustrating

Only you can make that tough call. I personally would have it taken care of. I don't normally get too excited until I have over 100 rounds through it ... but that's just me.

Since you've done a break in and 1st step in load development, I would take the next step or two and see how it behaves.

What brand of bore scope is that?
