I currently have a Remington 700 7RUM....shoots okay...but burns a lot of powder to get a 168gr bullet to 2950fps...91gr rl33....
Have a 7WSM that can easily do that....
Limited with a magnum bolt face...but curious what other options there can be to change out a barrel to a....
Don't necessarily need another magnum caliber...just thinking different cartridge.....
Also been thinking of selling it....with all the accessories for reloading...
Couple boxes worth of brass and rcbs dies....
Throw out some ideas please....

I went from a 7RUM to a 338 Edge and I should have done it earlier. Still burns a bunch of powder but the horsepower is much greater.

Have you tried some different powders with that bullet. H1000, retumbo, Rl26. I can get the speeds you get with the 175 eld-x and H1000 in my 7 mag.

Per Nosler's lastest handbook the 28 Nosler will push the 168 gr pill you mentioned to 3,238 fps using 89.0 grains of RL-33. That is way faster with 2 grains less powder - and it fits in a standard rather than magnum action. It is what the 7mm RUM should have been to start with.

Not inclined to go up in caliber...thx...338 guys....

Yep....in agreement that fps is slow....went up to 93gr rl33 but brass was getting beat up...pockets opened...
Even at 2950fps the 168lrab is very frangible....explosively...
1.5" bullet become a .45" bullet on an elk.....

I am liking the ideas of shorter brass...less powder for simular or better fps...

I have two 28 noslers both have 28 inch long throated bartlien barrels, one shoots 195 bergers 3140fps with 86 grains of re 33 and the other one shoots 180 eldm's 3255 fps with 87.5 grains of re 33. Both guns were very easy to work up a load for.

Not worried about barrel life....the rifle will probably outlast me...
Bolt based on a 404 Jeffries....WSM appeal to me...
But this being LA really doesn't work well just to change the barrel....

Since you've got a 7 WSM maybe look into adding a 6.5 to your collection.
If you're partial to the WSM cases give the 6.5 WSM a look, or for a factory offering the 26 Nosler.
I personally shoot a 6.5 SAUM built on a LA and it's by far my favorite.
As MAgMAn said a short mag is great in a LA if you plan on shooting long heavy bullets.
I would decide what caliber I wanted and go from there.

Rundown of current calibers...
2506...sons
260....wife's
7wsm...
280ai....
65/284...just rechambered a shilen barrel...haven't worked up loads yet...
26 Nosler....
Don't need any 30 cal or bigger....
