I'm shopping for a break action 35 whelen. CVA scout v2 is an option, but I understand it doesn't have the bergara barrel like the apex did though I've heard decent accuracy reports and favorable trigger reports.
Traditions makes the outfitter g2 which is slightly more expensive but comes with a Walther barrel and decent trigger and the very few reviews I could find were favorable on strength of action, accuracy, etc. Does anyone out there have real world experience with these or have other options around the same price in the 35 whelen?

I just looked at the TC web site and the Encore pro hunter is still in production and other web sites have plenty of barrels available. Maybe I missed something.

Yeah they recently discontinued and are selling off barrels. Most already out of stock. Seen one or two factory fresh still about but not in the 35

I may need to rephrase that, they discontinued the caliber I want and aren't making more barrels. CVA scrapped the apex and traditions dropped their switch barrel design. TC is down to only a few common calibers

Awesome. I saw Henry was making single shots and they are very good looking street under 400. I wonder if they will change it in the 35 for me.

I frequently shoot with someone who has a CVA scout V2 45-70 with 25" braked barrel. It shoots 1 1 /2" groups with full house jacketed bullets. Function s great and seems well built. The brake makes a huge difference in recoil. The recoil pad is nice also. If I didn't already have a 1885 high wall I'd buy one of them in a heartbeat. I've heard of the new Henry single shots. They should be great guns and their customer service is great. I just went through a hassle with TC getting new contender carbine repaired. Repair took 2 months but they did fix the problem. I bought a 30-30 23" carbine and primers were pushing out with all different factory loads. Problem was I had another barrel for it in 7 -30 waters that wouldn't allow me to install breach face bushings because it was so tight (less than 1000th gap at breach face). But the 7-30 was pushing primers also. The 7-30s chamber was to deep and some metal around chamber needed to be removed while the 30-30 needed breech face bushings. I let them deal with it. They did pay for everything including shipping so I'm not gripping to much. It's a shooter now with both of the barrels. Good luck with whatever you choose. If you do choose TC, Bellm TC online is a great source of knowledge.

I second going to Match Grade Machines "MGM" for your custom barrel. They make really good barrels and they really don't cost any more than factory T/C barrels. I have a 14" SS 30-30AI Contender pistol barrel I got from MGM and it is AWESOMELY ACCURATE.
