Where are you at with RL33 and the Berger 300 Hybrid? A few years ago I bought some new Bertrom brass and a pile of RL33. My plan was to use up my Rem brass and H1000 and then make the switch, but it took FOREVER as I got 7 loadings out of the rem brass. 91 grains H1000 behind a 300 Berger in a 31 inch tube netted me 2840..right about where everyone else was. VERY accurate, very stable, very repeatable and no PSI !!!

I did a touch of tinkering back then just to see. I Used the same lot of bullets and started at 96 grains of RL 33 as it seamed most guys were in that 102 - 106 grain range. I was shooting three shot groups. I had PSI right away at 96 and the groups were bad. and only shot the 96, 97, and 98 before the PSI got way to bad and I quit I have wipe marks on the 96 grains loads and the 98 grains loads may well have destroyed the brass. Put everything back on the shelf till today...which is when I REALLY looked over the brass and saw how bad it was. I still have the loaded rounds left over and will re weigh the powder when I tear them down.

Anyway......I now am going to start using the Bertrom brass, but am going to stick with the H1000 for now. I backed off to 89 and will work up, but as the Bertrom brass is somewhat heavier i probobly will end up around 89.5 - 90. H1000.

Just wondering where you guys were at with RL 33 and the bertrom brass. Hell...I'd also like to know where you ended up with H1000 and the Bertrom brass. Did you notice much difference between the Rem and the Bertrom? We have a second EDGE and have used the Bertrom since new and it's prefered load is 92 H 1000 @ the same 2840...No PSI and accurate as hell!!

Thanks, and sorry for the long winded post.

I love RL33 in my Edge! After breaking in a 28" Bartlien barrel with H1000 the best I was able to get pushing 300OTMS was 2800 fps w/92 grns and it was hammering my brass. switched to RL33/106.5 grns and up to 3010 fps, very light ejector marks, es @ sd's very good. I've since started using HBN and needed to go up to 108grns to get back the pressure.

I'm shooting Nosler brass with Re33 and 285 ELD-M and a 30" barrel. I'm getting 2970fps at 102gr and thus far it's been pretty easy on the brass. I'm through 3 firings and so far primer pockets are tight. Every gun is different...

I just had a late night epiphany. I seem to remember a headspace problem with the Bertram brass reared its ugly head back a few years ago. I can't remember if it was with my gun or the other Edge. I'm going to take some measurements tomorrow when I get to work. Excessive headspace would explain a lot with the excessive PSI problem. I hope that's what it is so I can fix it!

Till tomorrow

I'm shooting a 30" Lilja .338 Edge. PTG Reamer for the chamber. I'm at 91.0g H1000, 300g OTM, Bertram brass, 250 CCI primer, .010" off the lands. I averaged 2863fps at 83ft elevation and 16°F today. Four-in-one hole.

UPDATE,

Just pulled a couple of the bullets from the un-fired 5 year old loads and checked the headspace. Now....I don't have all of the fancy tools, but with a stripped bolt the brass fits in the chamber with the slightest bit of PSI on the bolt the last 1/3 of travel when camming the bolt closed. Bolt WILL NOT CLOSE with one piece of scotch tape on the bottom of the case...which is roughly .0015 - .002 thick. Headspace OK!!

I looked at the unloaded brass and it looks like I had expanded them out to greater than 338 because the mouth is belled and they will not chamber at all. 1 pass through the die...just enough to let them chamber and I will be GTG.

But, now, why do I have PSI problems with 96 grains of RL33? I'll see how the H1000 shoots today and re-evauluate weather of not to move to the RL33

Again...Headspace checks out OK...back to square 1

4xforfun...

depending on your throat length and chamber set up your load will vary quite a bit from others on here please proceed with caution!! I have a reamer set up for nothing but single shots 4.020" COAL w/300EH berger and it runs into pressure @106 gr of Rl33 Bertram brass 300 rum necked up NOT 338 EDGE HS!! my other one way shorter for repeater stuff will run about 97-98gr of RL33 with actual 338 EDGE brass! DO NOT USE THESE LOADS IN YOUR RIFLE AS THESE ARE SAFE MAX IN MY RIFLES!!! ALWAYS START LOWER!!

That being said i have found that RL33 will run about 10% over max H1000 loads given the different bore sizes and so on.. that's in rem or norma brass which is not as hard and has more capacity !!! i have found that Bertram brass is good as it gets right there with lapua but it will need to be decreased in charge weight by more than a guy would think.. so start lower and work back up!!

i would also say give your rifle a good cleaning and start over.

Oh sorry just trying to help..... I have absolutely no experience with this round just pulling stuff out of my A*% really from others posts on the interweb !!!

I forgot you know everything!!! That's why your asking for what everyone else is running for powder and such and what could possibly be problem RIGHT!!????

Have fun!!!!

***!!!! ARE you actually TRYING to be an *******? What , exactly , set you off? I answered both of your inquiries.....The fact that I have my own EDGE reamer and thus the loaded round length is not the problem, Was it fact that it is not a cleaning problem?

Go back to your f%^&ing hole untill you grow up!!

Have u ran any shots over a chrono to see where your speed is?

I didn't 5 years ago. And knew my speed with the Rem brass/H1000 was 2840, and had just started to test the RL33/Bertrom combo. I will when I go out and test the Bertrom / H1000 combo. I hope to see that same node at around 2840.

I just am stumped as to why I was showing PSI at 96 RL33. I thought about it being an UNDERCHARGE, but it got worse as the powder load went up. I just re-weighed one of the unfired test loads from 5 years ago...... marked 102...ended up at 102.0...EXACTLY!! nothing messed up in the charge weight. I will re weigh a few more when I figure out a 33 cal bullet puller, as a pair of channel locks is NOT the right tool for pulling bullets!!!
