Vote. Favorite caliber for whitetail deer

This is W/T post

However if like me, we can hunt W/T in many zones where we can buy General elk tags so we want to be prepared in case they present themselves. Your regions, zones, and draws all effect your rig and cartridge. I enjoy and support what works BEST for you in your area, game, and distances. As long as you all can get out and enjoy the great sport of hunting we can keep this passion alive.

If I know only W/T is on the menu, ALL of you will laugh at me...,,

Nothing brings more nostalgia and enjoyment in heavy bush like carrying and shooting my 1953 vintage M94 in 32 Special BTW, it was made before I was born so for those who think I am a dinosaur.......

I think most of us know this is post on WT but not all of us are confined in a single game species hunt as noted in #40 ...

There is no substitute for "real" world experience.

All are very good calibers for Deer! Still in my opinion the best is the one YOU have confidence in. It also has the have good GLASS on it, because if you can't see it you can't hit it!
As far as what I think is the Mose versital caliber it would be the 30-06! It has the most wide range of bullet choices. From 50gr Excelerator ( which I think has been discontinued ) to 220gr and everything in between. Just my 2 cents worth of hunting and shooting for 55+ years.

Sorry for the derail on elk. Just irritate me when people who probably haven't even seen an elk in person tell others that there favorite rifle is as good or better than something else for all North American game.

I am a fan of ALL cartridges. Some newer shooters have to make do with what they have and I support that 100%. Unfortunately I developed a "gun problem" when I was young and in my later years I get to own lots. I support any newer person in our hobby to get out and hunt with what they have as long as it enough gun for their species of choice.

Keep our sport vibrant and growing. Heaven know we have enough "anti's" that want our entire hobby shut down.

I've seen Elk in person (people do travel outside of their home state), and I've cooked and eaten fresh Elk on several occasions. Just never shot one.

And yes, I still stand by my "this is a whitetail thread" comment. Because that's what the OP named it, and intended for it. He didn't ask about elk, caribou, moose, squirrels, coyotes, or any other North American game...Just specifically whitetail deer. I think you are confusing this thread with another one about hunting elk.

No, I simply agreed with his cartridge/caliber choice for his choice of uses. Never once did I mention elk or any other specific game animal...Neither did he. So stop grasping for straws to make your argument appear relevant and shove the blame over to me.

My comments hold water, and I really don't feel like arguing with another person, AGAIN, over something this stupid, so I'm out of this one...Go argue with yourself.

"...for whitetails." That's a broad category, because in South Texas most white tails are 100-150 pounds, sometimes even less. But in MO, they can be up to almost 300.
Out of a blind, I am quite steady and can place my shots in the neck, have plenty of time and use a 223 with full success. But if I go to MO or Mexico and I'm walking, shooting from various field positions, I'm probably going to use at least a 6.5 with 140's.

My 22-250 AI hammers deer with a 75g VLD moving 3643 fps. But my all time favorite is a 7mm mag. Having a 28 Nosler built now. Have a feeling it will take over as my new favorite.
