I'm buying a Christensen Arms Ridgeline in 28 nosler. I'm in the process of looking for glass. I was wondering if the Razor HD gen ii is really worth all the extra money over the PST gen ii and if so why? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Keep in mind all I say here is without knowing much about you, or your intended use of the rifle. I'm making assumptions based on what I would do with that gun, the limited choices you ask about, and on my assumption your intended use of the rifle being a lightweight hunting rifle.

So now for me, yes the Razor is worth the extra money, but only on one of my platforms, a dedicated long range gun I built that I never intend on lugging around hunting, at least not hiking with it. It tips the scales at 16 pounds all dressed out.

The benefits of each can be compared on the Vortex website, and then by you in one of the box stores that have both models.

I do own and shoot both of these optics. My PST is on a 300 win Mag Sendero platform, and although heavy, ill hunt with it.

It is my opinion it will not be worth it to you.
The gun you are going to buy is about a 6-7 pound gun. I would not advise putting a 3 pound scope on it. The Razor is built like a tank.
The PST is pretty heavy, too...

If it were me and I had your gun, I'd be looking to put a scope on it in the 22 oz range to keep weight down. Hopefully all this clarifies my point of view.

Those are just my thoughts on it.

I wouldn't use either one on a light rifle. But if you want Vortex, go Razor 100%. Vortex has a fantastic warranty, but the Razor line will likely not take advantage of it . Everything else in their lineup will need the warranty.

I had several scopes last year,
SS 10x & 20x
Gen 1 PST 6-24
Bushy Elite 6-24
Razor gen 2.
The sun was just right where it was washing out the lenses so much you couldn't see the 550 yard steel plate, the exception was the Gen 2 Razor, with it you could could see clearly enough to make a confident shot. No gen 2 PST involved, but I did compare one to my XTR 2 and decided to keep the Burris.

What would be other good scope options? I would like to keep it under $2500. I want ffp. The reason I liked the razor gen ii was because of its wide magnification range (4.5-27)

If you could find a used Vortex AMG, I would go with that.

I agree. The Razor at +3 pounds heavier, while widely accepted and intended for PRS, is overly heavy and bulky on most hunting rifles. Weighing in at 1.2# less then the Razor, and with excellent glass, the AMG may be a better choice. I really like mine.

I personally own 2 Bushy LRHS 4.5-18x44 and I love them, I know it's not in the same tier of glass as the Razor gen 2, but it's lightweight and has pretty darn good glass for the price.

The Bushnell LRHS's are very nice scopes for hunting. The AMG is the only Vortex I would consider putting on a rifle like yours. The Razor HD's are monstrously heavy, especially for a hunting rifle. Personally, in the price neighborhood you're looking at, I would give a hard look at the Swarovski X5i in 3.5x18 or 5x25. I've shot one fairly extensively and it is a jewel.
