28 Nosler recoil

Thanks, that's good information. I'min the mood for something more exotic with a little more reach and am intrigued by the 28.

I agree with WeiserBucks 100%. I was a bit worried as I am a recoil coward. But with an APA brake and a 10 pound rifle my 140 pound sister blasted her first deer without a single issue. I could shoot the gun with or without the brake, no big deal. Buy one you'll love it.

If you do a lot of shooting you'll want a brake. But that's just me. i'm only 180lbs.
Not unbearable, but after about 6 shots off sandbags it starts to beat on you a little.
After i installed a brake it was a lot more enjoyable to shoot.

My 28 weighs 9.5 pounds with a scope, I can't imagine having one without a brake, it isn't unbearable by any means but definitely has some kick.

Do you have a decent recoil pad? I swapped my stock one out for a limbsaver and the felt recoil went way down. Just a thought.

Yes I have a good pad, the felt recoil isn't bad, I just meant that it has enough to make seeing an impact on an animal difficult.

I have a 28 Nosler running 195 Bergers that weighs just over 8 pounds scoped and it's a joy to shoot with a brake. I shoot a 6.5x284 all the time and the recoil is very similar in the 28. I would imagine without a brake it wouldn't be quite as enjoyable. The 28 Nosler is a rather large round. I had a 700 Sendero in a 7 Rem Mag without a brake and it had WAY more recoil then my 28 does.

My story exactly

Just finished putting a 28 nosler together myself. I've only ran 20 rounds down the pipe thus far for barrel break in. 10.25 pounds, 28" Proof carbon, Defience Hunter action, Manners EH-1A, Beast 4 port brake and I'm dang glad I put a brake on it. I'm 250 pounds and don't like recoil although every rifle would be considered a kicker. It isn't uncommon for me to take 3-4 rifles to the range and shoot 60-100 rounds so I run brakes on my 300WM, 7STW, 338WM and now the 28 Nosler. You can easy sit comfortably behind anyone of these calibers without a break for 6-10 rounds but after that it stops being fun in my opinion.

I have a 28 and it is braked, I also have a 7mm Rem mag un-braked. When I shoot the 7mag, I have to wear a recoil pad, with the 28 with a brake, no problems and I do not need to wear the recoil pad. At this point in my life, I will end up putting a brake on any Magnum caliber rifle, there is nothing worse than catching yourself bracing for the kick.
