I have a new Kimber Mountain Ascent in 280ai - love it. My question is related to bullet velocity. Everything I read says muzzle velocity for this setup is around 3000fps maybe a hair more for most ammo. I am using the factory Nosler Trophy Grade 140gr Accubond and the chrono tells me I am getting 3212 average. I thought factory ammo usually overstated their velocities in general. Its a new chrono - Caldwell. Is this normal? Or am i overthinking it?

I shoot a 280AI as well. . .26" 1/9tw Krieger with 168gr. Bergers over a good dose of RL23 and my load runs a sweet 3045 fps with 3/8" groups! I can push the throttle up to 3110 fps, but accuracy goes to hell 1 1/2" to 1 3/4" @ 100 yds and it beats up my brass. Depending on your barrel length/powder charge, 3200 fps could possibly be achievable with the light 140gr. pills. Keep good records and be safe!

Shooting factory Nosler 140 Accubonds, I got an average of 3199, with an extreme spread of 53 FPS. My handloads are 160 Accubonds with RL 26 and am getting an average of 3010 FPS.
