Savage Long Range Hunter

Just need to convince yourself that all that extra weight is coming from your wallet being heavier.... :)!some other options being, carbon fiber, titanium...... as the (quality long range"do all") rifles get lighter, so does your wallet!

Lol very true. I'm thinking the LRH is the best choice for the money! And I just found a new 4-16x44 Viper HS LR BDC for $400 at a local store. That would be a killer setup but gun and scope would weigh in at 10lbs!!
 
Now I'm thinking about the diamondback HP 4-16x42 and getting the custom dials from Kenton Industries done for it
 
The vortex tactical already has dials. I have one in 4-12 and i also have the 4-16 you just mentioned.

I shot the diamondback tatical on that Bergara HMR I had. Good scope for the money but no parallax adjustment and not the greatest eye relief made me sell it with the rifle
 
If you are wanting a good long range rifle in 338 lapua under 10 pounds, it's probably not going to happen unless you go with a carbon fiber barrel. But you can get a prefit carbon barrel from carbon six in 338 lapua for like $675....and it will be a 10 minute jop to change.

10 pounds honestly is not that heavy though. I covered 11 miles this season hunting elk in terrain that was up or down and a lot of thick timber with my 14 lb .260 AI, and it wasn't that bad. I personally wouldn't want a long range rifle much under 9ish pounds, but that's just me!!

Ah....my mistake, I saw talk of a 338 and thought that is what you were going for. My point still stands for a profit carbon barrel though, that would get your weight down significantly.
 
I already have a bunch of 6.5 creed cases laying around. And factory ammo is much cheaper and available vs 6.5 x284 but I do agree the 284 is a little more effective

I just actually picked up the savage 110 in 300wm and have been trying to find a good aftermarket stock. what are you using? and I haven't had the chance to put rounds into the magazine is the gun centerfeed or staggered feed? thanks

I purchased a Boyd's varmint thumbhole but didn't just install it so I can't say how good it is without having work done. I removed a decent amount of wood in the receiver and lug area, installed pillars and bedded it with Devcon. If yours is a blind mag well you can take the rifle out of the stock and if the mag stays with the rifle it's a staggered feed. If it stays in the stock it's a center feed.
