Coyote Hunting with a Shotgun

our group has really gotten into coyote hunting using 12 gauge
shotguns in dense wooded areas......we tried several shells before
we found the Hevishot DeadCoyote shells which are nothing short
of amazing

Check out the thread Coyote Shotgun Ammo and Choke Test. Heavishot was tested. It did not work as well as others in my Versa Max. However, every gun is different. It might be a true winner in yours.

the Dead Coyote shells have worked flawlessly for me....they hit
very hard and pattern great in my Benelli

I've tried several 12 ga loads on coyotes:
3" estate #4 copper plated lead with Mod choke= dead dog but less than ideal, not enough penetration, required follow up shot.
2 3/4" 4 buck (can't remember brand) Mod choke= 2 Dead dogs but one required a follow up shot to finish the job.
3 1/2" #5 winchester turkey load through a full choke= 1 dog DRT.
All of these were shot between 30 and 40 yards.
Haven't tried the Hevishot yet cause I cringe when I see the price tag.
Anyone with a real winning coyote load please let me know!

I don't think the Price of the Hevishot Dead Coyote shells is that high....they are super effective and what I found is that it only takes
one SHOT with them

DStark, do you have a link to the 3" Estate #4? I have never heard of them before.

Take a look at the Dead Coyote Shells.....I do not think you
will be disappointed

Everywhere I have looked dead coyote is $5/rd. Too expensive for varmints in my opinion. I'll see if I can find a link for the 3" estate #4's. I think I picked those up clearanced at sportsmans warehouse a few years back if I remember right.

I bought into the hype and got some "Dead Coyote" shells and hit a coyote at just under 25 yards with them. I have used the #4 Buck shot (can't remember the manufacturer) and hit a coyote with it under 25 yards. Neither coyote could tell the difference of what kind of shell I was using, both crumpled up and took dirt naps. My common sense and my wallet tell me that the coyote cannot differentiate between an expensive shell and a cheap one. If the cheap shells work, use them and save your coin for other things.

I hunt coyotes with a shotgun regularly. Hevishot dead coyote is by far the best. Lots of Drt out to 60 yds and beyond.
Any good Goose load will work, as well as #4 buck.

Imho using one $4-5 shell is better than several $1-2 shells, though there is definitely some sticker shock when buying hevi shot.

My shotgun load for coyootes is Remington 3in #4 buck...... patterns well out to 50 yards and it HAMMERS dogs!
