Hunting Scope choose

Went to the bass pro's and shoot straight. They tell you if you don't see it in the display. Go to our website and we can ship it to you. I guess everyone just drop ships now, people don't stock inventory anymore?

As I posted earlier, I went with VX-5HD. I wanted best glass I could afford. I would have gone with the VX-6HD over the 5HD if not for my budget. The ATACR does have better turrets, I would love to have gone that route over the Leupolds I think.

What is crazy, I went to the only three places I know of in Orlando, that I thought would carry high end scopes. Could not put my hands on a atacr or vx6i.
Try Cabelas or Bass Pro.

You might also just want to check with Leupold and see who they have as stocking dealers in the area.

For this kind of money you sure want to put your hands on them before diving in.

Just curious...

If you loved the Z8 so much, did you look at Swarovski's X5? It is MOA, a little heavier than the Z8, but still lighter than the ATACR. In this thread:

https://www.longrangehunting.com/threads/swarovski-x5-vs-atacr-nsx.172530/

Len said he liked it better than his ATACR, FWTW

Also, probably a dumb question, but why is Mil for elevation a deal-breaker? That is what is on the older Swaro scope I've used elk hunting for years, and Shooter and other ballistic software gives me clicks based on the .36"/click. "Clicks is clicks" it seems to me (and the dead elk) but maybe I'm missing something. Maybe if you were shooting at something really small, or really far away where clicks .11moa smaller were needed(?). Just curious is all.

I honestly don't care what you pick (I don't sell anything), I've just been researching and buying some scopes lately myself and was enjoying reading the thread.

Oh, one final unrequested opinion - I know you're already having a tough time finding samples, and looking at any sample is better than nothing, if for no other reason than to experience size, weight, and feel in person. But, hard to judge scopes in a retail store, or in broad daylight mostly. It may be like finding a unicorn in your area, but some shops will let you take them outside (with an escort :) ), and if you show up after work with lower light, THEN you could really make a better $2000-$3000+ decision. Again, maybe impossible where you are...

Mills in elevation is not the issue. The issue lies in the fact that elevation is in mills and the reticle is in moa. So when running your dope. You will have to run it twice or do the conversion from mills to moa in your head, in the heat of the moment. Not that it can't be done. I just don't want to take that extra time. When a trophy of a life time is at 600+ yards with a stiff cross wind. Plus I am using the br2 rangefinder for my range and ballistic calculator in one simple devise. Like stated noting wrong with this scope I just prefer to either have a scope that is mill, mill or moa, moa.
