Is this bullet seated deep enough?

It looks like the bearing surface of the bullet is about 2/3 the way down in the neck. This is Max magazine length for me. Is this enough?

Rule of thumb is minimum one bullet diameter into the neck. In your case >...308.

that is pretty far out there, what is your jump, if you have room in your chamber at neck length and you can afford to not trim to normal trim length it may help,

I've heard that too, the problem is 300 win mag necks aren't .308" long. Not even close

I don't know... I'd at least try to seat the bearing surface/boat tail junction all the way to the neck/shoulder junction. That way you know you're getting full neck contact with the bearing surface of the bullet.

Just my opinion...


You don't want to seat it too deep end up like this, though...



Just joking, that's made that way on purpose... It's a 7.62x38mmR cartridge I keep sitting on my desk. It's from an 1895 Nagant revolver. It's the world's only gas-sealed revolver. And it's the only one that's able to be successfully shot suppressed because of the gas-seal design. The cartridge design itself helps aid in the gas-seal functionality. Pretty cool revolver to research if you've never seen/shot one.

if that bullet did not come with a note with the BC and sugested bullet jump contact burger and they should tell you what they recommend as a bullet jump. Then if you don't have fancy tool use a sized UNPRIMED brass and put that bullet into the chamber, shutting the bolt will seat that bullet at the groves, extract that dummy and measure oal then subtract the suggested seating depth and that is your loading oal for that rifle bullet combo

Do you have one of the comparator tools for your mic to measure base to ogive length? That looks about what my loaded rounds do with the same cartridge and bullet but it's awfully hard to tell thous in a pic. My loaded round measures 2.930 base to ogive (if I'm remembering numbers correctly) and that puts my bullet boat tail to ogive junction even with the case neck to shoulder junction.

Contact Burger and they will send you load data. Be aware that these bullets will shoot with a mile of jump to the lands. They do not need to be jammed into the lands to shoot. Look at the sticky at the top of the "bullet, barrel etc." section and read the section on Burger bullets to learn how to find your seating depth.

The OAL is 2.9830".
I'm re-barreling this and keeping it a 300 win running the 215's. I can set up the new chamber how ever of course. If I run them full mag length (accurate mag 3.850") the OAL to ogive is 2.9830". I was a little concerned because that's about 2/3 of the bearing surface in the case neck. The 215's have a long boat tail. I could run them shorter of course, I was just trying to see what my max would be.

2.9830 sounds long but I need to check back in my notes to make sure I'm not getting numbers mixed up.

If your rebarreling and want to set it up specifically for the 215 do a search for the Rhian Mantha reamer print. He designed it specifically for running that bullet and be easy going with just enough tolerance to not have to neck turn and things like that. There was a lot of great feed back when I posted about it a while back and i plan to do it once i rebarrel my current 300.
