Hunting Scope choose

I just took delivery of a new Ridgeline in 300 wsm. It will be my primary deer rifle this season. I have several zeiss and 2 NF nsx 5.5-22x 50. My question is what would be a good choose for a light weight low light scope. I love my nsx's. However they don't seem to be the best options in low light. Gun will also be used to shoot steel out to 800-1000 yards. Thanks in advance. So many options.

Have you looked at the Nightforce SHV series. They are lighter and i think the new lens' are better than the old NSX Nightforce. I Have have both. I like the SHV a lot. Or the Leupold MK4 has always had good glass for a light weight scope. There are lighter scopes out there but the two i mentioned are really good glass, lightweight, and IMO most importantly for long range, they track. I have been looking closely at Kahles stuff recently too.

Been reading mixed reviews on the shv line. Is it still .25 moa per click? Does it have covered windage? "Cap"

My personal experience has been nothing short of excellent. Yes .25 moa clicks, covered caps but when you remove them they have finger adjustable turrets.

Kahles makes the best lightweight and lowlight scopes I've ever used. I have an older Helia KX 3.5-10x50 with their 4D-Dot reticle that I use on my lightweight whitetail rig.

You can still order a new one here... But you'll have to ship it from Great Britain.

I recommend ordering it with the 4D-Dot reticle.

Yes, but not Kahles does not import the Helia (lightweight) line of scopes into the US anymore. They stopped sometime around 2008/2009.

Sounds like you are describing a NF ATACR 4~16x50

I put a VX-5HD 3-15X44 on my Ridgeline and Hawkins rings.
There is enough room for me to get my thumb between scope and action for easy carry.

VX5 or VX6 would be a good choice. 20 oz or so, with excellent glass and great low light performance. Steer clear of the cheaper Vortex scopes, including the PST if low light performance is important.

Another vote for vx6. I just put a Vortex AMG on my proof hunting rig and I am absolutely blown away by that scope. If money isn't an option I say give an AMG a try if on budget try vx6, vx5 or new hd line of vx6 scopes.

Some of the better swarovski and zeiss scopes are great in low light and fairly light (better in low light than NSX and lighter). They are pricey but worth it.

What is the difference in the nsx line and the atacr? Also been eyeing the vx5 and vx6. What reticle do the offer with liumation and moa windage marks? The nsx has ruined me, I love the MOAR. My mind does not process mills.

I love my MOAR reticle too. The ATACR is more compact and lighter than the NSX. It also has better glass. If I had 2k+ to spend on a scope that's what I would have went with. I had half that and went with the SHV.
