LEUPOLD VX6 HD 4-24X 52MM (34mm tube) Impact 23 reticle....Good or Bad...???

AGL, I have the exact scope you're inquiring about. I have several reticles in this style from Leupold and I find them extremely useful. In fact, after using this type of reticle and experiencing it's usefulness for the past several years I strongly prefer it. Even if I have to run it at max power for the subtensions. The scope is lighter than other scopes in it's class and the glass is crystal clear. I also prefer the lower profile knobs and I am growing fond of the Zero Lock. I'm overall happy with what Leupold is kicking out for LRH.

My next scope will be the VX-5HD 3-15x44 (171716) with the Impact 29 reticle.

I have the same rifle two of the same scopes with reticles and 3 of the 3-18x50.
I can't speak to the new reticle but I do a lot of shooting in wide open country along with a good bit in heavy cover and find the 3-18x50 to be a really good option for both.

I have TMOA and B&C reticles and like them both quite well.

Just for grins I decided to try a shot on a skunk in the middle of a wheatfield at a little over 620yds over the weekend and the 3-18x was more than adequate.

Optics are great for both color and resolution and so far I haven't had any problems with any of them and I don't baby any of my gear. My truck guns spend most of the year banging around next to the console or in the back seat.

Magnification wise remember even a 10x is adequate on a deer sized animal at a thousand yards.

Lol after an thorough search you will probably end back where you started with the vx6 as your scope of choice and it'll work fine

How tall will you be willing to put up with. Most high magnification scopes will have taller turrets as that is all the rage these days.

That's the beauty of the VX-6HD and the VX-5HD. The turrets are quite low profile. In fact, they are about the same height as a standard turret with a cap. Plus, the zero locks until you push the button to rotate it. You get two full revolutions with the ZL-2.

I will be happy with low turrets. I see high turrets as one more thing that sticks'out at "right angle" just begging to get bent or broken off in the field. Notice that Leupold on their Mark 8 scopes intended for military application have gone away from high turrets.

They also get knocked off zero extremely easily.

I've had problems with leupold. Taking a scope in every year. Last was a vx6 not the hd version and I said enough is enough. I'll never buy one again. I live 15 minutes from them too. I asked if they'd changed their turrets or internals at all on the HD and that was it for me. I've had nothing but leupold all my life until now. Have a nxs nightforce now.

Sorry to hear you have had problems. However that does not change my opinion of Leupold.

I have had lots of highend scopes over the years. I just got a vx6hd 3-18x50 with the impact 29 reticle and i absolutely love it. I had a vortex amg and sold it because the 6hd has better glass, weighs way less and the turrets are just as good. I was a big time NF supporter forever also but i will be buying more 6hds now instead.

I am disappointed to hear your take on AMG glass. My hope was that the American made glass would be at least as good as the high end German and Japanese stuff. I purchased Leupold because of the value and it still had a high percentage of US Made and assembled parts. I would put the AMG as one of my next significant upgrades due to everything being US Made (except for the reticle).

I own last yrs model VX6 and this yrs VX6HD. I thought last yrs model was good until the HD model came out. I have had a lot of upper end scopes in the past and found the VX6 HD to be as good it gets. As stated from others the Turrets are lower and the zero stop is very useful for those in a rush and maybe not paying attention. It sports a 34mm tube and 38MOA which will reach out farther then most should shoot. Clarity is crystal clear in lowest of light and the illuminated reticle is a very nice feature. ( It can be turned off if you prefer) Also, the anti cant flashing reticle is a very nice feature for those long range shots when you think you are level. (I would still mount a level on the scope for precision leveling) Leupold also is the lightest at 23.4 oz of any of the upper end high powered scopes. I prefer the 24 power as well and personally I like the TMOA reticle for simplicity. The impact 23 is just busier then I like in a reticle.
