Another 6.5-06 question

while I'm on the subject. What are your guys favorite bullets and powder choice for this cartridge?
My previous post stated I'm starting off with some 143 gr.. ELD-X for hunting. But I'm also considering the Berger 130 VLD hunting.
My plan is to shoot ALOT of paper and metal this year in hopes of trying it out on a nice Mulie or black tail next season.
I'm open to suggestions.
 
Mines shoots the 140 vlds at about 3/4 moa at 600yards . We have killed elk with them with solid bullet performance.

mine also shoots the 130 GR at 1/2 moa. I've used sirocco 2 and currently using Nosler LRAB. Killed an antelope with the 129 at 3000fps last week. High shoulder shot penetrated both shoulder blades and exited.

I could not get 143 eldx to shoot consistently in my gun.

IMR 7797 and H 1000 gave the best velocity, 4831 gave me the best accuracy

Good to know about the 140 vlds. I was thinking of trying the 130's first since they were awesome out of my 270 (what the rifle initially was)
Im hoping the eldx's work in my build, but I've learned that every gun is different. I've had a couple rifles that hated the accubonds.
 
As for .264 bullets that have worked great on White Tail Deer. The 120 Nosler BT and Sierra SP at 3000 fps muzzle and the 140 Sierra Game King at 2800 fps from my 6.5x55. The 130 Accubond at 3350 fps from my 264 Win mag is awesome from point blank out to a touch over 500 yards so far.
 
I got caught up in the ELDX fever and bought 500 from the same lot real early on. They do work as advertised on game, so there is that. Get a comfortable chair at your loading bench and plan on sorting by weight and then again by bearing surface to get responsible long-range accuracy. Have a lot of bins handy, you will need them. I sorted my 500 pieces into 0.2g weight parcels and ended up with 7 groups. With no lot having more than 86 bullets. Upon checking bearing surface I had further divided the 7 groups into 24 parcels.
I used 200 of the worst outlaying bullets for ballistic testing from my 264WinMag, a 6.5/06 a 6.5creed and a 6.5grendel. I gave away 250 to buddies to test and use themselves and kept the best 50 for myself to use in my other 264win. My advice would be to save yourself a ton of time and headache and go another route. YMMV of coarse.
 
Don't have a 6.5-06 but in my 264 WM and 6.5 Swede I'm using the 142 LRAB. Took a 5x5 elk through both shoulders with one out of the 264 last fall. He managed to stand up and I ran a second one through the hip and found it under the skin in the off shoulder.
Damage from both bullets was impressive, yet not a lot of lost meat from the shoulder shot.

I also fell for for the eld-x hype, at first. After measurements and sorting, I was disgusted at the variances I found in the initial lots of 6.5 and 7mm. Sold them cheap and went back Berger and Matrix.
 
I bought the 123 ELD-X and struggled with accuracy in all my 6.5's...

Good to know.
Right now from what I'm hearing I'm leaning toward the 140 bergers and the lrab's if the 143 eldx's don't work.
 
I need to pickup some more of the 130 Accu-Bond. I've been have problems catching them in supply. They shot good also out of my 6.5-06.

I really like to run a few out my newest build....264wm.

I have always had good success getting Nosler bullets to shoot good...243, 6mmAI, 270, 280, 7mmRM, 7mm RUM and my 6.5x06. I've got some loaded ready to go to the range for 300wm build. I got so exited about finishing the 264wm I've really only had time for it. I have only one range trip with 300wm.

Last time I was on their site, Shooters Pro Shop had the 6.5 130 grain Accubonds for sale, they are the factory seconds but they shoot and kill just as well as the factory firsts and are a lot cheaper...

I bit the bullet (pun intended) and bought some last Thursday from Midway.

But I can still use cheaper...
