Anyone have any luck with this combo yet? I just bought a 7saum and this is a bullet i'm considering along with the 168vld, 175ablr, and 180vld. Thanks.

58.0 H-4831sc 210M
.020 off
short action and it feeds well.
trued remmy 24" brux 1:9
norma brass
.5 moa
2855 fps
I ran into pressure at 59.0.
This is almost identical to my 280ai 59.5 @ 2910.
It's been a great hunting bullet from 150-900

nmbarta1,

Is that load with the 162 eldx? I'm surprised you're not getting more velocity but i'm a rookie to the 7saum. I'm just saying that b/c I've seen around 3k with 4831sc and 180vld.

yes it is.
Have you personally seen that, or just on the interweb?
I just ask because I see a lot of velocities that seem like they would be hard on brass to say the least. If I want a bullet to go faster, I just buy a bigger gun, it's a bit of a problem.
I don't think you'll see that on a short action that feeds. That's probably about right in a long action with the bullet seated way out.
That being said, it seems a bit slow to me as well. I was thinking I could get it to 2900-2950. H-1000 might be better, but I never got it to shoot, I went up to 65.0 of H-1000, but didn't bother with the chrono because I couldn't get it under 1 1/2".
I've had good luck with this bullet in other rifles at .060-.080 off which might reduce pressure a bit in my saum and I might be able to push it a little more, but I don't see the point. It's a light rifle, it's accurate, and easy to shoot with this load and no brake.

Gotcha. I was told that by the guy who's rifle I'm buying. It's a load he developed and said when chrono'd it ave'd right at 3000. IDK if I'm gonna run it that hard which is why I'm considering a couple lighter bullets for better barrel and brass life.

Short or long action? Mag fed?

Stiller short action, Alpha mags thru Manners Mini-Chassis.

Thanks Outlaw! What velocities are you seeing with the H1000?

Velocity trued out to 2912 or 2917, I don't recall off the top of my head. 61.8grns of H1000.

I've just recently shot the Hornady 162 ELD-X from my XP-100 (Jon Beanland built) with good results.

The barrel is a Bartlein 5R 17.5" long.

See attached pic for more details.

I've also used the Berger 168 VLDH pushed by H4831sc, but only get right at 2700 FPS with that load. My gun typically produces 1/2 MOA or better with this load. The attached pic shows the best group todate with this gun/load combo ~1/4 MOA at 200 yards. This load routinely chrono's just a hair over 2700 fps.

For Africa last year I used 160 gr AB's over 63.7 grains of RL 26. Magnetospeed said 2990 fps. I would expect the 162's to run a similar speed. Lone peak arms action with a 25 inch Bartlein.

After some experimentation, I'm sold on the 180 hybrids in the SAUM. Other bullets will work well, but the BC of the 180's makes it easier to get hits in the wind .
