Hey Everybody!
A buddy of mine is having a 7 SAUM built. Would you be willing to provide your load data for the cartridge? He is interested in shooting the 160+ grain bullets. Especially the 180grain Bergers.

Any load data or links to online data would be appreciated!

Thanks

I just worked up a load with 162 A-max, 60 gr of 4831sc, and CCI BR2 primers. Out of my 28" barrel, they are going around 3000 fps. I have tried the 168 and 180 Bergers, VLD's and Hybrids, but the A-max shot the best out of my rifle. Good luck.

I've went from 57 up to 60 gr H 4831sc and the 180 vld's.
I've also tried from 64.5 to 66 gr Retumbo.
I have tried these loads with different seating depths.
There seems to be an accuracy node in my rifle at 2900 and another at around 2820 fps with the 180 bergers.

please start low on the retumbo loads as these were haulin ***! (up to 3090), but no pressure signs

these were in a 9 twist 27" kreiger.

Awesome data - thanks.

Keep the data comin' guys!

I found 64.5 gr of H1000 with the Berger 180 Hybrid shot excellent at 300 yds. But when I tested the same load at 640 yds I was getting high signs of pressure. The shots at 300 showed a slight ejector mark, at 640 the bolt was stickier than I'm comfortable with. Not sure why, maybe it's just the brass. The COAL for this load in my rifle was 3.085" which is .010 off the lands.

Also, 65.5 gr of H1000 with the Hornady 162 A-max shot excellent at distances up to 800 yds. According to Exbal, they were going 3057 fps. However, when I loaded up another batch of this load the accuracy wasn't nearly as good (from .3 MOA to .75 MOA). The COAL for this load in my rifle was 3.017" which is .005 into the lands.

I'm gonna get some new brass and try these loads again.

My next long range build will be a 7mm short mag but I cant decide between 7WSM and 7SAUM. Is it True that you can equal the velocities but use less powder in the 7SAUM? If so then what advantage does the 7WSM offer?

mine is a 26" barrelled tight speced chamber.
4831sc 61gr
h1000 65.5

162 amax for both loadings with speed at 3000 for 4831sc and 3020 for h1000.

160 accubond with 61 gr of 4831sc at 2970 for my close range load

I'm Trebark's buddy, guy looking for any favorite load data on the 7SAUM. Thanks to the folks that have replied. I appreciate it and I'm putting all this stuff in my notes.

On the 7WSM v 7SAUM issue. 7WSM appears faster by 50fps as it has a capacity advantage - however, there are a number of cartridge design issues with the 7WSM that reduce the actual speed advantage in the field.

(1) if you are building the rifle on a short-action, 7SAUM is a slightly shorter case, which is important because with the long 7mm bullets, you need every thousandths of an inch. Especially if you plan to mag feed
(2) 7SAUM has a longer neck, which puts the base of the bullet much less deep into the case vs 7WSM. Note that a lot of guys are necking down the 300WSM to 7mm for the longer neck in the 300WSM; however, the 7SAUM neck is longer than 300WSM.
(3) 7SAUM has longer, less sharp shoulders than the 7WSM. In theory, this should produce a more precise cartridge, although I'm not sure this plays out in real world (probably not apparent unless we put the guns on cement blocks); however, the shoulder on the 7SAUM do make it easier to feed the cartridge into the chamber vs 7WSM.
(4) barrel life. No other way around it: more powder thru the same diameter = less barrel life, so 7SAUM has an advantage there. I'm thinking 1500-2000 rounds for 7SAUM and perhaps 10% less for 7WSM. Some folks say longer necks reduce barrel wear; don't know if that is a fact or fiction.
(5) 7SAUM has some pretty good brass available- Nosler and Norma - although the Remington stuff is not up to par. Not entirely sure on the 7WSM brass.

There are a number of modified mags available to take the OAL length from 2.85-ish to 2.98-ish or even 3.10-ish and still mag feed on a short-action. 7SAUM appears to be the best cartridge for this route.

Best of luck on your build. And thanks again on the above load data.

My 7 saum loves 64.5 of h1000 also but only works on brand new brass. Consistently backed off as I was still getting heavy bolt lift on 3rd fired brass. Played yesterday at 62.0 & accuracy is there & zero pressure on 4th firing
