i think people that voted for strelok got it because its free, and theyve never had another app. for moderate ranges (600ish and in) you'll likely not notice how subpar it is. but once you play with something like shooter, or even step up into applied balistics, you'll realize how much strelok leaves to be desired. I personally use BallistARC due to its integration with my weatherflo meter. but i hear Shooter now has the option as well. Shooter is incredibly user friendly, so that is liekly were i would go were i to start over. but BallistARC is spot on for me, and i have already payed for it. so thats where i am at.

This is really interesting, because Strelok, Shooter and ARC all share the same engine, which is the same as JBM. So, if the results are not lined up, something different must be called upon. But algorithm-wise they should perform exactly the same with some minor differences given the usual programming tweaks.

i don't know what to tell you. i have some friends that have done much more intricate research than i on these things. but i can tell you i have personally used strelok pro (so not the free one), AB in a kestrel, and ARC. ARC and AB both spot on. Strelok not so much

Strelok is usually the first to drop of, Strelok pro will match Shooter, shooting on paper to transonic I've not seen enough difference between AB and Coldbore to deal with how unfriendly the UI is of Coldbore I've been using Patagonia since early on when really there was that or Xbal and it was like the heavens opened when running it after Xball but even when Shooter first came there was an immediate benefit in the UI to making fast precise hits on game inside a normal long range shot so some of us ran Coldbore for elr and technical info when the pace was slow. The AB came and the UI is better the package is more robust though I still would really like multiple wind vectors since that is one function shooting in the mountains I do find useful in cold bore bit over all AB takes a shooter a heck of a long ways out there, I know guys making big elevation changes hunting out to a mile plus and for cold bore nuts on hits there running AB. Been looking into X-ring but that is a significant dollar out lay and reading the op manual there just isn't the bullet data I need for they type of bullets I would be shooting though that may come.

I've found if you have a program that seems to just be way of and your inside a mile with something with decent ballistics your likely not inputting something in a way it likes, each program has some nuances that need to be learned.

Hello,
I know it runs "most" of it..but I ALSO know all the operational issues that Trasol has so it would NOT be on my list to utilize or suggest......

THEIS
i would agree with that. they havent done a good job of updating it.

Trasol may have some Patagonia breeding but it's far, far from the real deal. I've tried so hard with it and just gave up on having it be an actual useful program. I was hopeful for because it would be a Coldbore on a decent operating system!

Hello,
"UPDATING" is far from the only issue in comparing pure Patagonia program to Trasol...

THEIS
well the whole point of this is to explain. so go for it. put out all the issues! I'm not a fan of trasol personally, its not going to hurt my feelings! Though im sure no one cares one way or another.

Agreed, to each his own. A nuisance for some is not for others at the same time. In my case, I cannot accept that AB takes "aa1000" as a velocity!!! it's just lousy programming, besides that I've always found CB very very accurate, almost no need to "truing" even with G1. Tried such thing many times at extended ranges with AB and no luck whatsoever. In the end, AB is just another flavor of JBM, Strelok, Shooter (which was Bryan first decent program after MOBAL)

You are right on the money. Unfortunately Desert Tech did not a good job and support is just non-existent not to mention updates. However, let's truth be said, it gave AB serious flak because people was seeing what a better engine can do. I hang around usually on SH and reading the long thread was revealing. To the point that Bryan was so upset that he started a thread to discuss it. Enough said. What was interesting to witness is that no one supported his views while lots of guys jumped in to support Patagonia's engine.

I use Shooter. Simple, straight forward interface. I never shoot beyond 600 metres so have no idea what happens "way out there". I also have AB and Ballistic AE on my iPhone. BAE has a somewhat more complicated interface in my opinion. I have had Applied Ballistics since it first became available for iOS - was it 2014? Issues that were present back then are still there today! Also, they just can't seem to get the metric version to work properly. A bit weird given that it works perfectly in Shooter and AB evolved from Shooter as I understand it.

Cheers
